RATES OF POSTAGE.
NOTICE.
No letters will be sent from this Office to places within the United States, unless the postage is pre- paid by stamps.
Unpaid letters deposited in this office for places within the United States, will be sent to the Dead Letter Office at Washington.
Letters, for the mails deposited at the Stations and in lamp-post boxes, must have thereon a one cent stamp. in addition to the necessary postage ; or in de- fault thereof, will be held for postage.
Stamps and stamped envelopes can be procured at the office of sale. in the second story of the Post-office building: entrance at the east erd of the Cedar street front, open from 9 A. M to 3 p. M .. at the first window from Cedar on Nassau street, and at all the Stations.
On Letters.
The Inland Postage (which must be prepaid) for 3.000 miles or under. upon single letters, is 3 cents ; double letters twice, and treble letters treble these rates.
Letters for California and Oregon. 10 cents.
Every letter or parcel not exceeding half an onnce in weight, shall be deemed a sing'e letter. and every additional weight of ha'f an ounce, or less. shall be charged with an additional single postage. prepaid by stamps.
City Letters must be prepaid by a 1 cent stamp. whether delivered from the office or by the carriers. Advertised Letters are charged with 1 cent, in addition to the regular postage.

NEWSPAPERS .- The postage per quarter on the regular numbers of a newspaper mailed from the office of publication to subscribers anywhere within the United States, is as follows :- On a daily paper, 39 cents; tri-weekly, 19} cents; semi-weekly, 13 cents; weekly, 6 cents; semi-monthly, 3 cents; monthly. 1} cents. Payable quarterly in advance.
TRANSIENT NEWSPAPERS -1 cent each to any part of the U. S., prepaid by stamps.
MAGAZINES .- Transient Rates .- 1 cent for first three ounces. Every additional ounce, or frac- tional part of an ounce. 1 cent. prepaid by stamps.
TO SUBSCRIBERS .- One half of the above rates, payable quarterly in advance.
BOOKS .- 1 cent an ounce for any distance under 1,500 miles ; over 1,500 miles, 2 cents an ounce, pre- paid by stamps.

BANK RULES.
The Banks are open every day in the year, from 10 A. M. to 3 P. M., except Sundays, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, the 4th of July, and general Holi- days, appointed by legal authority.
The Interest for Discount in the banks of this city is fixed at 7 per cent. (with the exception of the Safety Fund Banks, which are limited to six per cent ) per annum, upon notes or bills not having sixty days to run. Three days of grace are allow- ed, and the discount takeu for the same.
Every bill or note offered for discount must be de- livered into the office on the day preceding the day of discount, inclosed in a sealed cover directed to the Cashrier, advising the name of the person upon whose account it is offered, &c.
Deposits of money or notes for collection, must be entered in the dealer's book at the time such de- posit is made.
