In the advertising table all figures are taken from the reports of the Statistical Bureau of the Evening Post, which keeps the advertising records for all the New York newspapers. In some instances the Herald's own checking shows larger increases than indicated by the Bureau,

In the advertising statement the Herald presents the figures of all classifications listed by the Statistical Bureau, without exception, believing that the Herald's friends desire a complete and accurate pre- sentation rather than a selection of favor- able classifications.

The Herald's ADVERTISING GAIN for the six months, according to the Statistical Bureau, is

On a basis of 296 agate lines to a column, this represents a GAIN of

1,376.9 COLUMNS.

Confidence Justified!

The President has spoken, and his voice is the voice of the American people, his thought is their thought and his inspiration their impulse.

He expresses the largest confidence in the loyalty of German-Americans, and this is already justified in the responce of the German-American Press.

Quoting from the editorial columns of the New York Staats-Zeitung of March 26th, 1917.

"Secretary of the Navy Daniels has called the attention of the New York Staats-Zeitung to the fact that the navy needs new recruits for the ships in reserve. This is an opportunity for the young men to do real service for our country."

"We are convinced that this appeal to the sons of our citizens of German blood will not be made in vain. They are the men whose duty it will be to defend their country in a crisis like the pres- ent, and who will gladly do their duty as their fathers did in 1861."

This is merely further evidence of the thoroughly American spirit of the New York Staats-Zeitung. It always was first to champion American ideals and principles.

It is a worthy American newspaper and an advertising medium of known value.

It has the most complete news service among American newspapers. All three of the great international news bureaus serve the New York Staats-Zeitung-Associated Press, International News, and United Press. This is in addition to its regular staff of correspondents and writers
