The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating Thereof."

The FACT that more than 30,000 young men and women have found a course of study in the SPENCERIAN COLLEGE profit- able to them, and the stepping stone to success, ought to be proof of the worth of such training. These former students are many of them now among the leading merchants, bankers and business men of this and other cities. They show their appreciation of the education re- ceived in this College by sending their sons and daughters and friends to take the same course of study. Many of them have also expressed in writing their opinion of the College, and some of these testimonials have been printed in a small book entitled "THE PROOF." If you desire to know what is the most profitable education to fit one for the active duties of life, and where is the best place to get it, do not fail read to this book. It is mailed free to any address.

The Proof

The elegant 48-page catalogue, bound in cloth, and containing the names of 1931 students, may also interest you. The SPENCERIAN BUSINESS COLLEGE was founded in 1848, was the first one established of the Bryant and Stratton Colleges, located in more than 40 of the larger cities of the United States and Canada, and has always stood in the front rank of American Business Colleges.

It costs but little if any more to take a course in this school, with its established reputation for superiority, than any other in this section, and the benefits are infinitely greater. Ask the leading business men of Cleveland about this school, and then call at the new College Building, 422 Superior Street, and see for yourself, what is being done.

P. R. SPENCER, E. R. FELTON and H. T. LOOMIS, Principals.

PREFATORY.

TWENTY-FIRST ANNUAL EDITION.

In presenting this edition of the CLEVELAND CITY DIERCTORY for 1891-92, we do so with the assurance that we are rendering the public a service that will not fail to be appreciated. It is what it pretends to be, a record of the homes and places of business of the rapidly increasing thousands of this beautiful and enter- prising city, a record as nearly perfect as a liberal expenditure of money and human ingenuity can make it. All measures that the experience of many years in this line of business can suggest, have been taken to secure a satisfactory canvass, and to produce as complete and accurate a Directory as the nature of the work permits.

con

1891/92 cont

The evidence of continued growth and increased prosperity which this volume exhibits, cannot fail to be gratifying to every citizen of Cleveland. This work contains 99,825 names, which multiplied by 3, the generally received method of computation, gives 299,475 as the present total of inhabitants of the city. See table, page 2.4.

We invite particular attention to the map of the city accompanying the Directory. This map was prepared with the greatest possible care from the latest surveys, and will be found complete and perfectly accurate in every detail. It embraces all the new streets, conspicuously defines the boundaries of the wards, and is in all respects the most thorough map of Cleveland ever published.

In conclusion, we desire to express to our subscribers and the business com- munity our cordial acknowledgements for the support accorded us, which we refer to as a gratifying evidence of the acceptability of our previous efforts to give Cleveland a trustworthy Directory.

Very Respectfully,

CLEVELAND DIRECTORY CO.
