I, 5th regiment, Cleveland, and one year 1st sergt. in the Euclid Light Infantry, Cleveland; learned the contracting business with his father, who was proficient in all lines of building; has been a building contractor for twenty years, for the past five years mostly in building, jobbing and remodeling, taking all branches of the building trades; is a tenor singer, and has sung in many of the Cleveland churches; was a member of the Cleveland Oratoria and Opera Society, when it was in existence; now a member of The Cleveland Opera Club; in May, 1912, took one of the leading parts in the opera "The Highwayman," at the Colonial Theater; has traveled three winters with opera companies, the Madeline or Magic Kiss, The Scenic Opera Co., and The Girl From Paris, a musical comedy; taking prominent parts in all; two winters with Bullock, the lecturer, singing illustrated songs; member East End Athletic Club. Kelly; one daughter, Grace S., one son, Harvard; taught school three winters in Ohio and Wisconsin; entered insurance business in 1867; built up the large fire insurance business of George H. Olmsted & Co., and The Ohio & Indiana State Agency of Olmsted Bros. & Co .; being the largest agency in the United States of The National Life Insurance Co. of Vermont; director and state agt. The National Life Insurance Co .; director Central National Bank; Woodland Ave. Savings & Trust Co., Land Title & Abstract Co .; director and treas. Union Savings & Loan Co., National Safe & Lock Co .; trustee Cleveland Pulte Medical Col- lege; member Chamber of Commerce, and Union Club; Republican, and for forty years deacon in the Baptist Church.
