Street Directory.
The Street Directory is simply an alphabetica arrangement of the Streets, Alleys, &c., with a sufficient portion of the corner numbers attached to each, to make it a means by which citizens may become familiar with the system of numbering, and it will be found by them, as well as strangers, to be a practica Iguide, to the different parts of the city, as far as it has yet been numbered.
EXPLANATIONS .- On all streets commencing at and running directly from the river, the odd numbers are on the West, and the even on the East side of the street, commencing at the river. On all streets crossing Main, the odd numbers are on the South, and the even on the North side of the street, commencing at and running East and West from Main, thus dividing each into two distinct streets, distinguished by prefixing East and West to the name. A few instances occur where two streets have the same name-generally one of them in the suburbs, not numbered. A * is affixed to the one at present of the least consequence, to designate it.
It was thought unnecessary to give the corner numbers on both sides, where streets crossed. The old ones are used in all cases, except where they (without crossing) proceed from or come to the one upon which the numbers are designated.
