The Advertised and the Unknown

A perfect gentleman may be hidden beneath the rags of the homeless and nameless man who comes to your back door. It is pos- sible, but not probable, for if he were, he would produce some identification.

In the stores, unknown and unadvertised goods that are offered may in the same way be of as good quality as the advertised articles, but if they are, would not the manufacturer be proud to make the facts known to the world?

The advertisements in these pages are those of business institutions who are glad to proclaim the articles they sell or the serv- ices they offer. Bring into your home only those articles whose merit is known and vouched for.

POLK'S SEASIDE CITY DIRECTORY 1938

Copyright, 1938, by R. L. Polk & Co. For List of Abbreviations See Page 12

The city of Seaside, one of the Clatsop beaches, has an ideal climate the year around, unexcelled boating and bathing facili- ties, splendid hunting and fishing (both fresh and salt water), that combine to make it one of the most popular summer and winter resorts on the Pacific Coast. Located on Clatsop Beach at the junction of the Necanicum and Wahanna rivers, 117 miles via Columbia River route west of Portland, and 78 miles by the Wolf Creek road, and is the terminus of the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway. Seaside is the most important beach resort in the Pacific Northwest on the Pacific Ocean. Seaside has a standing population of 1,565 (1930 census) with as high as 20,000 during the summer months. One of the finest municipal water plants is located at Seaside, the water of which flows from moun- tain springs at the head of the Necanicum River and Beerman Creek. Although small in population, Seaside presents a metro- politan air at all times and is bustling with business the year around. Several large concrete buildings have been erected the past year and plans are under way for the erection of more dur- ing the winter. Seaside has, aside from the above improvements, six miles of pavement, electric light and power service, gravity city water systems, best of schools and churches. The outlook for Seaside as a commercial center is promising, as at present there are large timber tracts available for logging and logging crews are at work the year around in the vicinity. Seaside has a weekly newspaper, the Seaside Signal. The scenery in and around Seaside is unsurpassed anywhere and the climate is mild in winter and cool in summer. Best of telephone and tele- graph service, modern hotels at all points on the beach, fine auto livery accommodations and several passenger trains both ways to and from Portland makes Seaside the place to spend the summer months.
