Letters addressed to parties out- side of the carrier distribution are not taken out by carriers, nor even sent to the stations, but are inva- rlably retained In the general de- Ilvery of the maln postoffice. So that It is of the utmost Importance that the outside boundaries of the carrler limits should be understood.


THE WEST SIDE distribution can easily be described in general terms, as within the following 11m- Its, viz .: From York street on the north to Seymour avenue on the south, and from the river west to and including Willamette Heights, City Park and Portland Heights, and not Including Seventh Street Terraces and Marquam Hill.


THE EAST SIDE limits are so Irregular as to be describable only by a boundary llne, as follows: Beginning at the Willamette river in Albina at, and including, the U. P. Terminal Grounds, thence north along Maryland Av to Prescott St, thence east along Prescott to Con- gress St. thence north along Con- gress to Golng St, thence east to Williams Av, thence north to Flor-


ence St, thence west along Flor- ence to Union Av, thence south along Union Av to Failing St, thence east to E 9th St, thence south to Fremont St, thence west to E 7th St, thence south along E 7th to Thompson St, thence east along Thompson to E 24th St, thence south to E Washington St, thence east to E 26th St, thence north to E Ankeny St, thence east to E 28th St, thence south to E Stark St, thence east to E 41st St, or the city boundary. Then south along said boundary to Hawthorne Av, thence west to Marguerlte Av. After taking in that avenue to No. 385, the line continues west along Hawthorne Av to E 14th, thence south to Division St, thence east to E 24th St, thence south along E 24th to Bismarck St, thence west to the river, thence north along the river to place of beginning at Al- bina.

The distribution of this sta- tion covers what was formerly East Portland, and is comprised In the territory from Hancock (be- tween Larrabee and E 7th streets) and Thompson (between E 7th and E 24th streets) to Bismarck on the south, and from the river to E 24th St, except that E 20th forms the boundary Ilne between Stark St and Hawthorne Av.
