Admitted during the year :

1

Women 2 = 33

Died during the year :

Men 2-Women 4 = 6

Leaving in the Asylum at present date = 27 There are employed in the Asylum :

Mrs. L. Pietzsch. Matron ;

Miss D. Kahle, Assistant;

Miss M. Werner, Domestic ;

Miss P. Loelliger,

Rev. G. P. Mueller, Superintendent and Housefather.

These statistics fail to reveal the fact that the trying weather during the past winter brought an unusual amount of sickness and suffering into the Home and Asylum. Yes, we thank the kind Shepherd that He blessed the constant attendance and unwearying watchfulness of physician and nurses to such an extent that only one child, one of the tenderest and best, failed to survive the strain. The aged in the Asylum, enfeebled by age, have naturally little vitality, with which to resist the inroads of sickness and disease ; hence the mortality is greater-Under the efficient management of the Superintendent and his assistants, in every department, the physical and spiritual interests of the helpless orphans and dependent aged ones have been constantly attended to and promoted. The various committees of the Board have been untiring in their efforts to raise the institutions to their highest degree of efficiency and development. Though much has been accomplished; yet more needs to be done-and only such as are in constant contact with the work can understand the difficulties that often hinder the best en- deavors to lift this work of supremest charity to a level of the Church's expectations and desires. The Lady Visitors, through their committees, deserve great credit for the interest and devotion their untiring efforts have so constantly manifested. Their labors can never be over appreciated.

Miss L. Rohlfs has succeeded Miss B. Kaessmann as Teacher

in the Kindergarten; and Mr. Joseph A. Bremer, 1427 N. Broad St., accepted his election as Treasurer, and has entered bond for the faithful discharge of his duties. The old building on the grounds has been fitted up for Hospital purposes in case of sickness or dis- ease occurring that demand separation from the others. We praise God for His goodness and mercy. We thank all kind friends, and they are many indeed, for their encouragement and gifts; and earnestly ask, that they may ever remember our Orphans and our helpless aged ones in their prayers and charity. We hope to in- crease our facilities so as to able to receive more children, and train them up under God, as an honor to the Church and a blessing to their day and generation.

The following constitute the Officers of the Board:

President, H. LEHMAN;

Treasurer, Jos. A. BREMER ;

English Secretary, REV. C. F. HIRZEL ;

German Secretary, REV. F. WISCHAN ;

The term of service of Jos. A. Bremer and F. Bauer expires with the next meeting of the Ministerium.

Yours respectfully

Rev. C. J. HIRZEL, Secretary. ,
