President's Report for 1947

April 13, 1948

Representatives and Brothers:

We thank you for your presence at this, our 72nd Annual Session of this Home.

The guests of our Home are happy, and they are well cared for by our Superintendent and Matron (Mr. and Mrs. Koons). We have 43 guests in the infirmary, which is full capacity.

We have room for men, but no room for women or man and wife. Some of the Lodges have been very generous during the past year by making so many donations; namely: an electric toaster, electric plate, electric refrigerator, steam wagons, piano, American flag, ampli- fying system, sound effect moving picture machine, 27 hospital beds, and many other items which are listed in the donations.

The repairs and painting to our building were started in 1946 and we continued same until the interior and exterior were finished, which cost us more than we had hoped for; and, with the cost of food and other items, our total costs are higher than they have ever been. For that reason I believe we should endeavor to get a higher Home tax. The farm has produced good crops and our cattle has been productive.

Our benevolent fund has been increased very nicely over the Christmas season by your cooperation for which we offer our sincere thanks. However, we will need additional donations before the end of the year if we want to carry on the fine work that we have started.

I also want to thank all of the help for the courtesy and kindness they show our guests, and I want to thank Mr. Lester Koons and his wife, Sarah, for the hard work they are doing.

I also appreciate the hearty cooperation of every member of the Board, especially the acting secretary who is doing a fine job. When I asked him if he would take over the job of secretary permanently his answer was "yes", anything for the Home. Many thanks, M. A. Hoff.

It is a difficult job for some of our directors to be present at every meeting, but I am happy to report we had a very good attendance at the Board meetings, and I feel that we should have a full Board meeting each month, and may I say to those who are hoping to be elected to the Board, that they duly consider if they have the time to attend our meetings, which will be twelve a year.

We have arranged a program for this meeting which will give the chairman of each committee about five minutes to make his report and. ten minutes for questions and answers for each committee. At the noon recess, after eating, we hope, the visitors will take the time to visit through our Home. A member of the Board will be pleased to escort anyone who wishes to do so:

On August 16, 1947, we had our first Home Day at this Home for which I want to thank our committee and everyone who helped to make it a success, also every one who attended. The same committee is arranging the program for our next Home Day, which will be held on August 1948.

Our Fraternity furnished a number of the young boys in World War II, and a number of them paid the supreme sacrifice. Wouldn't it be a fine tribute to them if we should erect a memorial on our front lawn or build an extension to our infirmary in their honor.

In conclusion, again I want to thank you one and all.

J. Y. LOUX, President
