Exceptions -- No person whose annual sales do not exceed $1,000 is required to take out a license. No feme-sole trader or single woman, whose sales do not exceed $2,500 (vendors of wines or liquors excepied), is required to take out a li- cense. No importer of foreign goods, selling original package, as imported, is required to take out a license. Manufacturers or mechanics,. not having a store or warehouse apart from their manufactory or workshop, for purpose of vending goods, not required to pay annual tax. and license required of foreign dealers. Manu- facturers and mechanics who sell other goods. other than their own manufacture, not exceed- ing the sum or value of #500 per annum, are not. required to pay an annual tax or license fee ; if such sales exceed $500 per aunnm, they are re- quired to pay same annual tax as now required to be paid by dealers.


Special Licenses, at special rates, are required to be taken out by brewers and distillers, billiard saloon and bowling-alley proprietors, brokers, auctioneers, tavern-keepers, proprietors of res- taurants, eating-houses, etc., and wholes le. liquor dealers. Board of Appraisers sit during May of each year to hear and act upon appeals of all classes, except wholesale liquor dealers, bottlers, brewers, distillers, rectifiers and retail liquor dealers.
