History of Lodge No. 43, F. and A. M.


Penna. Dental Society; a member and was twice president of the Harris Dental Association of Lancaster; a member of the Lancaster County Historical Society and a number of social and other organi- zations. He served as City Committeeman for the Third Ward for six years, was a member of the Common Council of Lancaster, and a Delegate from Lancaster City to the Republican State Con- vention in 1909. He took an active interest in the National Guard of Pennsylvania, being a member of the Hospital Corps of Battery C, which was on duty at Hazleton, during the Coal Strike of 1897. He is an active member of the Sons of Veterans, U. S. A., and served as the Division Commander of the State of Pennsylvania during the year 1909.


He was made a Mason in Lodge No. 43, on September 13, 1893; elected Junior Warden in December, 1905; Senior Warden in De- cember, 1906, and Worshipful Master in December, 1907.


He is also a member of Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, and of Harrisburg Consistory, A. A. S. R.


WASHINGTON M. NIXDORF. [W. M., 1908 to 1909.]


WASHINGTON M. NIXDORF was born in Lancaster, Pa., October 12, 1875. He attended the public schools of the city graduating from the High School in June, 1891, shortly after which he accepted a position in the Lancaster County National Bank, where he con- tinued until 1898, when he connected himself with the Conestoga National Bank. In 1906 he became the Paying Teller of the Lan- caster Trust Company. On November 1, 1909, he accepted the secretaryship of the Retail Merchants' Association and the Lancas- ter Board of Trade, which bodies were since consolidated into the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, of which he, at this time, con- tinues to be the Secretary. He has been active in athletics and in literary pursuits.


He was made a Mason in Lodge No. 43, March 12, 1902, elected Junior Warden in December, 1906; Senior Warden in December, 1907, and Worshipful Master in 1908.

SAMUEL R. FRAIM.

SAMUEL R. FRAIM was born in Lancaster, Pa., June 29, 1881. He was educated in the public schools of Lancaster, being graduated from the High School in 1898. Afterwards he entered the Mercers- burg Academy from which he graduated in 1899, and from there entered Lehigh University, from which he graduated in 1903, with the degree of Mechanical Engineer. In the fall of 1903 he became a member of the Keystone Lock Company, of Lancaster, being its Secretary at the present time. In 1908, he was granted several valuable patents on improvements in padlocks.


He was made a Mason in Lodge No. 43, May 11, 1904; was elected Junior Warden in December, 1907; Senior Warden in De- cember, 1908, and Worshipful Master in December, 1909.


MARTIN M. HARNISH. [Senior Warden.]


MARTIN MYLIN HARNISH was born on his father's farm in West Lampeter Township, on September 24, 1875. His early life was spent on the farm. At the age of sixteen he left the farm to learn the shoe business with his brother, in Lancaster, Pa. At the age of eighteen he entered Franklin and Marshall Academy, and from there, in the fall of 1895, he entered Franklin and Marshall College, graduating with the Class of 1899.


After graduating he read law in the office of William R. Harnish, Esq., and was admitted to the Lancaster Bar, January, 1902. After his admission he entered into partnership with William R. Harnish, and has since that time been practicing law at Lancaster, Pa.


He was made a Mason in Lodge No. 43, October 16, 1903; elected Junior Warden in December, 1908, and Senior Warden in December, 1909.


He is a member of Lancaster Lodge of Perfection and of Harris- burg Consistory, A. A. S. R.

THADDEUS G. HELM.

THADDEUS GEARY HELM was born in Strasburg township, Lan- caster Co., September 22, 1866. His early years were spent on a farm and he received his elementary education in the ungraded schools of his home township. In 1888, he graduated from the Millersville State Normal School and for several years thereafter taught in the public schools of the county. In 1891 he entered Franklin and Marshall College and graduated in 1895 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He received, in 1897, from his Alma Mater the degree of Master of Arts. In the same year, while he was pursuing a course in the Reformed Theological Seminary at Lancaster, he was elected one of the principals of Franklin and Marshall Academy, the preparatory department of Franklin and Marshall College. This position he has held for thirteen years and during that time the institution which he represents prepared over five hundred boys for college.


He was made a Mason in Lodge No. 43, February 11, 1904, and elected Junior Warden in December, 1909.


He is a member of Royal Arch Chapter, No. 43; of Goodwin Council, No. 19, R. & S. M., and Lancaster Commandery, No. 13, K. T.
