Be- coming acquainted with the Brethren and spiritually influenced by the preaching of Brother Powell, in Carroll's Manor, he came to Lititz, in 1772, and here joined the Brotherhood. Having acquired some knowledge of carpentry, he assisted in the re-building of the congregation mill (destroyed by fire in 1775) and the erection of our church, in 1787; but his service thereafter was that of a general utility man in the community-"making a partition for Brother Benade," candle-boxes for the chandler, a "slay" for Brother Eggert (the Warden) ; ringing the noon-hour bell, winding the town-clock, keeping the fire-engine in repair, etc. Well-authenticated accounts of his uncommon physical agility and strength have come down to us; we know, too, that he had a charming way with children,-so that Greenbury striding down the street with little boys and girls clustered about or clinging to him was, in that time, a not un- familiar sight; and we have the word of Bishop Benade for it that he was a beautiful character-simple, true-hearted, ever-helpful, and a devoted Christian. The last few years of his long life he passed in the home and companionship of his old friend Martin Hansen.
