SUNDAY SCHOOLS.


American Sunday School Union, instituted May 25, 1824, is located in seventeen of the states. The number of the schools connected with the Union amount to 723, containing 7337 teachers and 48,681 scholars. The 7th anniversary of the Philadelphia Sunday and Adult School Union was held on the evening of the 25th of May, 1824, when the constitu- tion of the American Sunday School Union was adopted. There are 67 Sunday schools in connection with the institution, 709 teach- črs, and 6294 scholars, and 14 schools, 162


teachers, and 1230 scholars not in connection. Annual subscription $3, or $30 for member- ship for life. The Society is under the direc- tion of a President, 8 Vice-Presidents, a Cor- responding and Recording Secretary, Trea- surer, and a Board of Managers consisting of 36 laymen, 24 of whom to reside in Philadel- phia, to be divided into 3 classes, one third of whom go out annually. The meeting is held annually in Philadelphia on the first Tuesday after the 20th of May.

The schools in Philadelphia are, the Adel- phian Union, consisting of three Societies, having 11 schools, 81 male and female teach- ers, and 5480 male and female scholars.


Female Sabbath School Association, has two schools-school No. 1 has 26 teachers and 112 scholars-school No 2 has 7 teachers & 62 scholars. The teachers and scholars are all females.


The Galilean Society, organized in 1815, has 17 teachers and 160 male scholars-No. 1 has 100 boys and 11 teachers-No. 2, 60 boys under the care of a superintendant and 5 teachers.


The Abyssinian Society has one school, with 124 pupils, of whom 48 are males and 78 fe- males, under the care of 14 teachers and 2 assistants.


Adelphian School, No. I, in the Alms-house, from 30 to 40 annually, and 5 teachers-No. 2, in Juniper street, has 24 boys and 26 girls, and 5 male and 5 female teachers.
