This is one of the largest of the Northern counties. It is bounded by Cache County to the East, on the West by the State of Nevada, on the North by Idaho Territory and on the South by Weber and Tooele coun. ties and the Great Salt Lake. The Central Pacific Railroad enters this county a few miles north of Ogden and runs westward along the Lake shore to Nevada at the same point the Utah Central Railroad diverges to the northward passing through the county towards Cache. Quite a large district through the southwestern portion of the county is ren. dered blank by the Great American Desert, but to the northwest in the mountaineous districts are valuable mines of all descriptions and fine timber. That portion of the county basing the Wasatch mountains lays claim to the largest population, In this latter place the climate is extremely mild and well adapted to raising fruits, cereals, small grain, buckwheat, rye, flax, &c. BRIGHAM CITY Is the county seat of Box Elder county, situated 22 miles north of Og- den with a population of about 2000.
