Terms and Salaries of City Officers.
& On the 4th Thursday in May 1850, and every two years thereafter, the citizens of Richmond will be called upon to elect a number of city officers to serve a term of years, besides electing the Common Coun- cil and a portion of the board of aldermen who have the selection of a number of city officials. As a matter of general in- terest. we give below the offices to be filled by the people and the Council. and the pay and allowances of each as nearly as can be ascertained. and their term of service.
Mayor. for two years. Salary, $1,350: High Constable. for two years. Fees.
City Sergeant, for two years. Fees and allowances for feeding prisoners, and lock- ing and unlocking them, has averaged $2,250 per month. This is paid by the State. He pays his deputies and jailors also.
Commissioner of the Revenue, for two years. Commission- from the city $4,550; commissions from State about $2, 127: total commissions about $7.000. Deputies and clerks paid by him.
Sheriff, for two years. Paid by fees, which have been cut down by Treasurer doing the collecting.
Clerk of Husting's Court for six years. Salary from State. $1.000; city. $1,00: total salary, $2 .- 00. Fees for liquor and marriages-licenses. 75e. and $1 each- making in all abont 86.000. He pays his . Jefferson Ward: R. G. Cabell. William deputies. H. Scott. James C. Smith.
