THE COLLEGIATE VEAR exten'Is through eight months, and is divided into a Preliminary Term. beginning March ist, and a Regular Term. beginning June ist. During these termsall the branches of medicine and surgery are taught, didactically and clinically. Regular clinics are held three days in the week at th : City and Conaty Hospital. Potrero Avenue (450 beds), where the Professors of the practical chairs have charge of words and powers every advantage for the instruction of students. There is also an active clinic conducted three times a week at the College building, where a large number of patients are examined and treate.l before the classes. Didactic lectures are given daily by the Professors, and evening re itation are held three times a week.

The dissecting room is open throughout the entire year. Material i. abundant, and costs but little.

It will thus be seen that the course of instruction, which extends through eight months of the year, aims at the development of practical physicians and surgeons. The great advantages possessed. by the Medical Department of't e state ('nMersity, enable the Regent, and Faculty to commend it in an especial manner to those seeking a complete and systematic knowledge of the medical profes- sion. The facilities for bed-side study have been largely increased of late, and the student will find opportunities at his command which, for comprehensivenesi, are nowhere surpassed.

THREE YEARS' COURSE.

In response to the general demand, inth in and out the profession, for a higher degree of pro" ficiency in medical education, the Me lieat Department of the State {'niversity was one of the first in the United States to adopt the three years terme study. No tudent can prevent himself for final examination until he has artended fulminiy three regular courses of lectures and clinics While this requirement emails no extra expense in the matter of texas at is a will further guarantee that none shall bear the diplomat of the state Medical School but those thoroughly qualified.

PREFACE.

OUR last Pacific Coast Directory was issued about two years ago, and although we made a strenuous effort to publish as complete and reliable a book as possible, we realized that the field was too large for one book. The population of the territory covered has more than doubled since our first book was published, and it is now impracticable to continue the publication except at a heavy loss. We herewith present to our patrons a substitute covering a portion of the territory, intending as soon as possible to cover the balance of the Coast.

The patronage we have received we consider an evidence that the plan is ac- ceptable to our friends and subscribers-and they are the people whom we are most desirous of pleasing.

Since the publication of our last Coast book, we have encountered competition from several sources, but the field is large and constantly growing with the in crease of population, and an honorable competition in our business is not objec- tionable. !

We shall endeavor always to do satisfactory work, and are confident of receiv- ing in the future, as in the past, a satisfactory patronage. -
