This church was organized July 8, 1849.


Number of communicants, five hundred and twenty. The Sabbath School has an average attendance of about two hundred and sixty. The library contains about two thousand volumes.


Sabbath services morning and evening. Sabbath School at half past twelve o'clock P. M. Prayer Meet- ing every Sunday and Wednesday evening; Church Covenant Meeting the Wednesday evening preceding the first Sabbath in each month.


Bethesda Mission, A. B. Forbes, Superintendent, meets at the corner of Eighth and Folsom streets every Sunday at 3 P. M. Average attendance, one hundred.


First Colored Baptist Church.


Location, east side of Powell street, between Bush and Sutter. Rev. George E. Duncan, Pastor; resi dence, in rear of Church.


Number of members, one hundred. This church was organized in 1854. Services are held every Sab- bath at eleven o'clock A. M. and half past seven o'clock P. M. A Sunday School, with an average attendance of fifty-five is held at one o'clock P. M.


First Free Baptist Church.


Location, south side of Bush street, between Hyde and Larkin. Rev. F. M. Washburn, Pastor ; residence, 1256 California street.


Services are held every Sabbath at eleven o'clock A. M. and half past seven o'clock P. M. Prayer Meet- ing is held on Wednesday evenings, and a meeting for the study of the Sunday School lesson, at which the Pastor presides, is held on Monday evenings at half-past seven o'clock.


The Sabbath School is in a prosperous condition, and has a library of more than sixteen hundred vol- umes. It meets immediately after morning service.


Fifth Baptist Church,


Location, Twenty-second street, between Howard and Capp. Rev. P. W. Dorsey, Pastor ; residence, 2601 Howard.


This church was organized August 17th, 1869.


Services are held every Sabbath at eleven o'clock A. M. and half-past seven o'clock P. M., in Winter, and forty-five minutes past seven o'clock P. M. in Summer. Prayer Meeting every Wednesday at half past seven o'clock P. M. in Winter, and forty-five minutes past seven o'clock P. M. in Summer.


A Sabbath School, with an average attendance of one hundred and sixty teachers and scholars, and a library of about six hundred volumes, are connected with the church. The school meets immediately after morn- ing service.


Hamilton Square Baptist Church,

First Congregational Church.

This church was organized July 29th, 1849. The present membership is about seven hundred and sixty.


Services are held every Sabbath at eleven o'clock A. M., and at half past seven o'clock P. M. between the first of September and first of May, and at forty- five minutes past seven o'clock P. M. during the other months of the year. Chinese School at six o'clock. Church Prayer Meeting every Wednesday at half past seven o'clock P. M. Sociala monthly, Monday and Thursday evenings. The Richarte Temperance Society of the Church supports Free Reading Rooms at 155 New Mont- gomery street.


Plymouth Congregational Church.

This church was organized January 12th, 1862.


Services are held every Sabbath at eleven o'clock A. M. and at half past seven o'clock P. M. Bible Classes and Sabbath School st half past nine o'clock A. M., and immediately after the morning service. Weekly Prayer Meeting every Wednesday evening and lay preparatory classes every Tuesday evening.


Third Congregational Church.


Location, south side of Fifteenth Street, between Valencia and Mission. Rev. J. A. Cruzan, Pastor ; residence, 120 Capp street. Number of members, two hundred and thirty-five.


This church had its origin in the Fall of 1862.


Services are held every Sabbath at eleven o'clock A. M. and half past seven o'clock P. M. Prayer Meet- ing every Wednesday evening.


The Sabbath School has an average attendance of about four hundred and fifty. Meets immediately after morning service.


The Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor numbers nearly two hundred members. The Senior Branch meets Sunday eveninga at half-past six o'clock. The Junior Branch meets Friday afternoons at fifteen minutes past three o'clock. A Sewing School and Drill Corps are maintained in connection with the Junior Branch, and meet at four o'clock Friday afternoona.


The Ladies' Aid Society meets bi-weekly on Tues- days at half-past ten o'clock in the morning. The Hawthorne Literary Society meets on the last Friday evening of each inonth. The Alpha Kappa Missionary Society meets bi-weekly on Wednesday afternoons at half-past three o'clock.


Fourth Congregational Church.

The church was organized February 1865.


Services are held every Sabbath at eleven o'clock A. M. Prayer Meeting every Wednesday at eight o'clock P. M. The Sabbath School connected with the church numbers about three hundred members and has & library containing eight hundred volumes. Meets immediately after morning service.


Olivet Congregational Church.
