SAN FRANCISCO, CAL., April 27, 1889.

MR. H. C. ROBB, Dear Sir :- In response to your inquiry in regard to the 72-inch Gang Edger in our Mill at Hadlock, Washington Territory, we take pleasure in informing you that the same has given us entire satisfaction-not only on account ofits cutting register (up to 12×12) but also from Its capacity, having run through this machine over 100,000 feet per day of Oregon Pine Lumber, we are willing to vouch for its efficiency. Furthermore, it has edged the lumber for the entire mill. The machine has been in operation for about two years and has given us little or no trouble, always giving as a result true and even lumber. In conclusion we would say that for ease of working, quickness of setting the saws and for firmness for holding the same, we do not think it has an equal. Very truly yours,

Proprietors Suction Syringe.

E. BARTSCH, General Manager.

WHAT WE CLAIM FOR OUR SYRINGE :

The double action of suction and force takes place simutaneously. It is easily inserted.

It is easily kept clean.

Hot water or acids will not affect it.

It can be inserted in any Speculant, we make different sizes.

It insures perfect cleanliness.

It puts the tissues in the best possible condition for medication.

It is most useful for the application of medicated fluids.

Its regular daily use will have a tendency to strengthen the muscular tissues.

It will prevent coagulation and decomposition.

You can screw to the nozzle any tube required of a breast cup.

In cases of severe ulceration, in order to prevent bleeding, the suction can be moderated by fastening a sponge to the nozzle.

All other attachment are furnished by us to the medical profession upon application, for the small additional cost of one dollar.

Physicians will best appreciate the effect of absolute cleanliness in all inflamed and ulcerated conditions, and no woman who has used our syringe will ever do without it again.

PREFACE.

Every effort has been put forth to make this, the thirty-first volume of LANGLEY'S SAN FRANCISCO DIRECTORY, worthy of the high reputation which that work has always borne in this city. Great care has been taken in the compilation. The index to contents has been greatly en- larged, thereby giving readier access to the great mass of valuable information in the first part of this book with reference to societies, pub- lic institutions, etc., the most complete, it is thought, contained in any directory in this country. Particular attention is called to another valu- able addition to this work, consisting of the numbers and boundaries of each of the congressional, senatorial and assembly districts, and also of the three hundred and ten new election precincts into which the as- sembly districts were subdivided on the sixth day of January last by the board of election commissioners. Mr. W. H. L. Corran's connection with this work ceased with last year's issue, and on that account more than usual care has been bestowed by the new management upon this volume, which, it is believed, will bear favorable comparison with any of its predecessors.
