THE AMENIA UNION CEMETERY.
In the beautiful sunny spot a short distance west of Amenia Union, lie many of the early settlers of the "Oblong " valley. The cemetery. though one of the oldest in the town, the earliest stone being inscribed 1749, is still used for burials, being in excellent order, and well cared for.
The "Oblong" church, where Rev. Mr. Knibloe preached so many years, stood on the hill east of this burying ground, almost on the Connecticut boundary line, many of his congregation coming from Connecticut. Amenia Union is sometimes called "Hitchcock Corners."
