This ground is adjacent to the property of The Hotchkiss School. Interments in it are infrequent and probably do not average one a year. Until recently little attention was given to its appearance, but several years ago, an expensive and sub- stantial stone post and iron rail fence was placed around the yard by Mrs. H. M. Gillette, who also joined Mr. C. H. Bissell in having the enclosure graded, and the monuments put in as good condition as was possible. Since then a permanent up-keep fund has been raised, chiefly by the Bissell and Landon families, assisted by other persons interested, which will eventually yield a handsome annual income.

* The seven Reed inscriptions above, three Gay, one Cotter and one Sheldon, appearing elsewhere in this list, all of which are preceded by a marginal (R), are properly included in this index, although the stones from which they were taken are not now standing. About 1898 they were taken up and piled in a lot near the Wells Hill Track, on the cross road from Horace Landon's to Wells' Farm House. In their stead a granite block was placed in the Cemetery, on which all the names and dates (years only) were placed. The data given here was taken from the original stones in 1898. M. D. R.
