At a church meeting Legally warned in ye first church of Canaan, for the more explicit Declaration of our sentiments concerning ye Rules that Christ has given in his word, low to treat one another as Brethren in Church fellow- ship -- this Church came to the following Resolves --
1. We are of opinion & agree that when any of our brethren are guilty of scandal tis our Duty to go first & Tell him his fault privately & seek in Love & meekness to reclaim him & if he refuses to hear to take the other method directed in ye 13th chapter of Mathew where there are evidences to prove ye facts. But that tis contrary to said direction in ye Rule above first to publish his fault to others & if there be no evidence we are to keep the whole matter secret & only tell hin his fault privately & whether he be reclaimed or not we are to commune with him in ye Church & Leave it to ye Day of Judgment.
2. Je are of opinion that we have no right to withdraw from communion with ye Church because we are offended with a particular Brother, because thereby we excommunicate ve Church without giving them to know for why. Contrary to Mathew 5: 23, if thou rememberest yt thy brother hath aught aminst thee, Leave thy Gift at ye altar & first go & be reconciled to thy Brother.
3. If any one Member have ought against the Church they ought not to withdraw from communion till they have told ye Church ye grounds of their unesiness, for this would be to cut off ye church without giving them a hearing contrary to our covenant obligations one to another.
64
SOUTH CANAIN, CONN. CONG. CHURCH
4. When any Brother is an offender & is regularly told of his offence he ought to withdraw from communion till he his Done his faithful Endeavour to be reconciled to his Brethren, according to Matthew 5:23.

As we agree that every Church member is bound to attend Publick worship constantly, so we deem those who are absent week after week ought to be dealt with as offenders unless they give a satisfactory Reason for their absent Heb. 10- 25 -- not forsaking the assembling yourselves together. 3. Voted thit those who indelge themselves in midnight revels, & are guilty of Lewd or Lascivious discourse or actions are scandalous offenders & that we will not commune with such, being properly convicted; till they wike Gospel satisfaction.
