PREFACE.

WE present our thanks to those who have made to us accurate returns of various officers and statistics for the Register. Some, however, are too indistinctly written and incomplete. Care should be taken in writing proper names, or the printer may get them wrong. Some have sent us only the members of the Board of Education cho- sen this year; we want the names of the whole Board; and where there are local school officers aside from those ap- pointed by the town, we wish them also returned. Our limits oblige us to contract some articles ; but chiefly those which change the least from year to year.

The following list embraces articles of permanent value, here inserted for convenience of reference.
