FOREWORD.

In presenting this, the 30th annual edition of the Atlanta City Directory, we feel that no better Directory of this city has ever been made, neither has Atlanta ever enjoyed a better or more prosperous year than the one just passed, and the indications are that 1906 will be still better.

The whole United States has been exceptionally prosperous this year, and the South has had more than its proportionate share; with 15-cent cotton, and advancing prices on pine lumber; turpen- tine, rosin, iron, sugar and fruit, coupled with large industrial investments of foreign capital has brought with them a strong following of intelligent and skilled labor; all this has resulted very advantageously for Atlanta, and gives bright promise of a 200,000 city in 1910, when we will show the world that the New South is truly awake, and setting the pace for the whole country, in industry, education and art.

Now altogether for a great and glorious exposition, and a 200,000 city; let each of us strive to bring one more man here, and give a dollar toward the Exposition once a month. We will never miss the effort and in after years it will be a source of continued enjoyment and income.

POPULATION.

We have now within the corporate limits of the city 110,250 per- sons, and just outside, closely surrounding our borders within the limits canvassed by the Directory 40,000 more, making 150,250 people that practically all belong to Atlanta.

We will very much appreciate our readers patronizing the ad- vertisers in this book, and will guarantee honest treatment and fair prices if you mention seeing their advertisement here.

Thanking the public for the uniform courtesy with which our representatives have been treated and all our patrons, for their patronage and kindness, and sincerely wishing a continuance of your present prosperity, we remain

Gratefully, ATLANTA CITY DIRECTORY,

JOSEPH W. HILL, Manager.
