Fire Department.


The Atlanta paid Fire De- partment was organized July 1, 1882: now has a chief engineer and insurance inspector, eight foremen, three engineers, sev- enty men, three steamers, five two-horse hose wagons, one two-horse reel, two hook and ladder trucks in service and one in reserve, twenty-five horses and 13,500 feet of hose, one double tank, two-horse chemical engine. The annual expense in connec- tion with fire alarm is about $68,000. The force is paid as follows : Chief $4,000 per year ; foreman $100 per month ; engineers $100 per month : run- ners 855 to $65 per month. Drivers $70 per month. The Gamewell fire alarm system is used with 64 street boxes
