Settled in the county June, 1878, in Floyd Township. For years he was an active Repub- lican, often a delegate to county and state conventions ; served as representative in the Twenty-ninth General As- sembly of Iowa.
Donovan, A. J. Born July 14, 1838, at Canton, Pa .; father, Jeremiah Donovan (born Westboro, Mass., May 26, 1810), mother, Mary E. Bullard (born Aug. 15, 1814, at Milford, Mass.). Married to Ada L. Harrington, December 25, 1871; children : Maud, Mary and Fay. Settled in O'Brien County April, 1867, on east 12 of northeast 14 section 24, Grant Township. Died at Smiths Center, Phillips County, Kan., July 4, 1888. Was a member Methodist Episcopal Church and I. O. O. F. County Auditor of O'Brien County 1872 to 1875 inclusive.

Ewers, Gladney. Born at Fredericktown, Ohio, April 15, 1834. Married Susan Condon of Fredericktown, Ohio, and they had one child, Melvin Monroe, who died in infancy. Died February 17, 1901, and was buried at Sheldon cemetery; also lived near Pipestone, Minn., for several years; his wife died at Mr. Schee's home in Primghar, February 26, 1905, and is buried beside her husband.

Frush, John H. Born February 1. 1836, a son of George and Jane Frush. Married Elizabeth Jane Steele January 29, 1867 ; children : Minnie, Alva, Maggie, Frank, Dollie, Vera F. Enlisted July 19, 1861, at Abington, Jefferson County, Iowa, in Company K, Seventh Iowa Infantry; participated in bat- tles of Fort Donelson, Fort Henry, Shiloh, Chattanooga, Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain ; discharged April 10, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tenn. Settled in the county in 1878, residing most of the time at Sutherland. Died February 9, 1898, and buried at Waterman cemetery, Sutherland, Iowa. Member Methodist Episcopal Church and I. O. O. F.
Fuller, J. W. Born 1835 in New York state. Enlisted September 1, 1862, at Davenport, Iowa, Company E, Twentieth Iowa Infantry ; promoted November 16, 1862, to Seventh Corporal ; discharged July 8, 1865, Mobile, Ala. Was a member Mc- Kenzie Post, No. 72, Sheldon, and is buried in Sheldon cemetery. Settled in O'Brien County about 1882.
Fuller, William S. Born August 16, 1845, in Chicago; father, Asa Fuller (born in New York state), mother, Mary (born in Collier, Scotland). Married to N. A. Wilson March 10, 1868; children : Mary, Sidney and Harry. Enlisted August, 1863, at Paynes Point, Ill., Company M, Seventeenth Illinois Cav- alry; made Corporal November 9, 1863; discharged as Sergeant July 28, 1865, at Jefferson City, Mo. Settled in Waterman Township, this county, in March 1870; later re- sided at Hartley and later removed to Artesian, S. D., where he died March 29, 1909. He was buried at Hartley, in this county. He was a member of the G. A. R. and A. F. & A. M.

Enlisted July 25, 1861, at Plano, Ill., Company F, Eighth Illinois Infantry ; dis- charged January 5, 1864, and immediately re-enlisted as veteran at Vicksburg, Miss .; wounded in head at Pittsburg Landing, Tenn .; mustered out May 4, 1866. Settled in O'Brien County 1881, in Grant Township. Died January 20, 1885, and buried at Trimello cemetery in Clay County.
Gage, Joseph L. Resides at Blaine, Wis .; born March 25, 1845, in Lake County, Ill .; father, Leonard Gage (born June 23, 1807, in New York state), mother, Alsena (born March 10, 1808, in New York state). October 11, 1868, married to Ellen A. Colby, who died November 12, 1878; married to S. A. Wilcox September 24, 1879; children : Alsena M., Della, Josie, Ruby (Hillock), Louis B., Genevieve. Enlisted Feb- ruary 11, 1865, at Joliet, Ill., in Company L, Eleventh Illinois Cavalry (Captain G. O. Cole), Third Brigade, Department of Tennessee ; discharged September 30, 1865, at Memphis, Tenn. Settled in county at Hartley July, 1885; later re- moved to Wisconsin ; receives mail at Minong, Wis.
Gano, Benjamin D. Born in Athens County, Ohio; father, John Gano (born Otsego County, N. Y., January 28, 1811). Mar- ried to Harriet Eaton June 25, 1868; children: George S., Frank B., Charles E., Mary F. Enlisted August 29, 1861, at Waupaca, Wis., but mustered in at Madison in Company A, Eighth Wisconsin Infantry, Second Brigade, Second Di- vision Army of Mississippi ; was appointed Corporal in 1862; re-enlisted as veteran January 4, 1864; made Sergeant same year and later First Sergeant; commissioned First Lieuten- ant May 17, 1865, and Captain upon his discharge September 13, 1865; discharged at Demopolis, Ala. Settled in this county June, 1871, on northeast 1/4 section 2, Center Town-
