RAY EVANS, who en- listed in February, 1917, before war was declared, was the first soldier over- seas from Williamson county. He took part in several battles and lost his right arm in the bat- tle of Chateau-Thierry. His home was in Carter- ville and he was only eighteen years old when he went in service. He was sent to Walter Reid hospital in Washington, D. C. when he returned to this country and dis- charged from service in January, 1919, and upon returning home was mar- ried to Miss Fannie Cal- vert of Marion. He was cited for bravery and bears several medals.
