Population, 23,000. The county seat of Grant county. In the heart of the farm and fruit district of the state. Situated seventy-two miles northeast of Indianapolis. Marion has railroad facilities through four lines, the "Big Four," the "Clover Leaf," the "C. & O." and the Pennsylvania, thus having the best of shipping facilities north. east, south and west. It is also served by three interurban lines, the Indiana Union Traction Company, the Marion- Bluffton and Eastern Traction Com- pany and the Indiana Railways and Light Company. Marion has a Nation- al Military Home, with extensive and beautiful grounds and many fine build- ings. It has thirty churches of the


following denominations: Baptist,


Christian, Catholic, Congregational, Episcopal, Friends, Dunkards, Chris-


tian Science, Lutheran, Methodist, United Brethren, Wesleyan Methodist, African Methodist, Free Methodist, Presbyterian and Seventh Day Advent- ist, A Y. M. C. A. and a Y. W. C. A. Ma- rion has two national banks, one state and two trust companies, which stand ready to extend valuable assistance to manufacturers and those in all other lines of business. Clearings in 1915 upward of $26,000,000.


Marion, however, classes as a manu- facturing city. The labor conditions are excellent and the cost of living is low. Climate healthful. Both natural gas and oil in the vicinity. Cheap coal and power rates. Its manufac- tured products include malleables, mo- tors, glass products, furniture, tables, piano stools, gloves, handles, mat- tresses, brick, wall board, fertilizers, iron posts, boilers, boxes, men's shoes. paper boxes, paper pie plates, pack- ing house products, writing tablets, paper miill supplies, condiments, '


canned products, auto parts, auto


brakes, auto trucks, drop forgings, ce- ment blocks, cigars, drums, electric novelties, insulated wire, both heating stoves and ranges, and other appli- ances. Freight tonnage of the manu- factured articles shipped from Marion in 1915 upward of 150,000 tons.


Marion maintains wholesale houses for groceries, confectioners, fruits, produce, cigars and tobacco and meats. Marion has 4 newspapers, the Chron- icle and The Leader-Tribune, published daily and the Observer and the Teach- ers' Journal monthly. Have a high school and ten grade schools, which together compose the public school system. Also a busines college, a nor- mal college and a conservatory of mu- sic. Telephone connections. Tel., W. U.
