E. & W. and the C., C., C. & St. L. and by 2 electric lines, the T. H., I. & E. T. Co. and the U. T. Co. of Indiana. Newcastle is a prosperous growing city, and being surrounded by a fertile farming coun- try, combined with large local manu- facturing interests and a progressive pushing citizenship, it is certain to grow in size and importance until it shall rank in every way as one of the first cities of the state. The city is one of beautiful homes, modern business blocks and public buildings. It has paved streets and a municipally owned light, water and sewer systems. New- castle claims the distinction of being the home of the long stemmed Amer- ican Beauty rose, from which fact it is often termed the "Rose City." Rose culture forms an important factor in the city's industry, having several large greenhouses covering acres of ground from which car loads of roses are shipped to all parts of the United States. Important among its industries is the manufacture of automobile parts, pianos, kitchen cabinets, caskets. bridges, flour, laths, planing miils and handles. The Indiana Village of Epi- leptics is located here. Newcastle has good schools, churches of the leading denominations, 4 strong banks, the press is represented by 2 daily papers, the Courier and the Times and 2 Week-
