Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway.

One of the most perplexing ques- tions which agitate the mind of the prospective tourist while deciding his intended route is, Which road will of- fer me the greatest inducement ? A little geographical knowledge and a short perusal of any of the maps pub- lished by the great Chicago, Milwau- kee & St. Paul Railway, will serve to convince the most skeptical that this road possesses unparalleled facilities. Its five thousand miles of railway pen- etrate the richest, most fertile and most beautiful portions of Northern Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Dakota, reaching 'nearly all the principal cities and towns of this great section. This portion of our country has become famous for its numerous hunting and fishing grounds, and pleas- ure resorts, as well as for its magnifi- cent scenery, and thousands who have visited these resorts, after crossing the ocean in search of beauty, declare that the old world holds nothing which can equal the grandeur and glory of our own Western wilds. It would be im- possible to find a more delightful climate than that existing in the pleas- ure resorts along this route during the summer and fall. The air is pure, healthful and invigorating. Game and. fish abound here, and show no signs of diminishing in number, although such a heavy drain is made upon them by the numerous pleasure seekers who come here in search of health and recreation.

The whole route is a wilderness of every- thing beautiful in nature. Hills, dells, lakes, rivers, woodland and prairie, nothing seems lacking. The grand panorama of nature's wonderful handiwork unfurls its brilliant pictures one by one, while the en- raptured gazer calmly reclines in his easy seat and thoroughly endorses the popular verdict, viz., that no railway, either on this or the other side of the ocean, can compare with the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul. Its Pullman palace and sleeping cars are marvels of luxury and convenience ; its dining cars perfection, its locomotion so easy and comfortable that one is hardly conscious of the motion. Taken alto- gether, it stands without a rival.

CHICAGO, ROCK ISLAND & PACIFIC RAILWAY

By reason of its central position and close relation to all principal lines East and West, at initial and terminal points, constitutes the most important mid-conti- nental link in that system of through transportation which invites and facili- tates travel and traffic between cities of the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts. It is also the favorite and best route to and from points East, Northeast and Southeast, and corresponding points West, Northwest and Southwest.

The Rock Island system includes in its main line and branches, Chicago, Joliet, Ottawa, La Salle, Peoria, Geneseo, Moline and Rock Island, in Illinois; Davenport, Muscatine, Washington, Fairfield, Ottumwa. Oskaloosa, West Liberty, Iowa City, Des Moines, Indianola, Winterset, Atlantic, Knoxville, Audubon, Harlan, Guthrie Centre and Council Bluffs, in Iowa; Gallatin, Trenton, Cameron and Kansas City, in Missouri; Leavenworth and Atchison, in Kansas; Albert Lea, Minneapolis and St. Paul, in Minnesota; Watertown in Dakota, and hundreds of intermediate cities, towns, villages and stations.

THE GREAT ROCK ISLAND ROUTE

Guarantees its patrons that sense of personal security afforded by a solid, thoroughly ballasted road-bed; smooth tracks of continuous steel rail; sub- stantially built culverts and bridges; rolling stock as near perfection as human skill can make it; the safety appliances of patent buffers, platforms and air-brakes; and that exacting discipline which governs the practical operation of all its trains. Other specialties of this route are Transfers at all connecting points in Union Depots, and the unsurpassed comforts and luxuries of its Passenger Equipment.

The Fast Express Trains between Chicago and the Missouri River are com- posed of well ventilated, finely upholstered Day Coaches, Magnificent Pullman Palace Sleepers of the latest design, and sumptuous Dining Cars, in which elaborately cooked meals are leisurely eaten, "good Digestion waiting on Appetite, and Health on both." Between Chicago and Kansas City and Atchison, are also run the Celebrated Reclining Chair Cars.

THE FAMOUS ALBERT LEA ROUTE

Is the direct and favorite line between Chicago and Minneapolis and St. Paul, where connections are made in Union Depots for all points in the Territories and British Provinces. Over this route. Fast Express Trains are run to the watering places, summer resorts. picturesque localities, and hunting and fish- ing grounds of Iowa and Minnesota. It is also the most desirable route to the rich wheat fields and pastoral lands of interior Dakota.

Still another DIRECT LINE, via Seneca and Kankakee, has been opened between Newport News. Richmond, Cincinnati. Indianapolis, and Lafayette und Council Bluffs, Kansas City, Minneapolis and St. Paul and intermediate points. OREGON.

The great, new and flourishing State of Oregon offers to the immi- grant more substantial inducements for settlement than any of the eastern States, and to ignorance of its vast resources, the productive quality of its soil and its mild, delightful climate may be attributed the fact that so much of its area is still without cultivation. It is being rapidly filled up now, and a decade hence the value of its land and products will have more than doubled.

Washington Territory,

Lying next to Oregon, is also one of the most prolific sections in the great Northwest, and it is a matter of no small significance that its yield of Wheat, Barley, Flax and Hops for 1885 was nearly double what it was in 1884, and that the products brought a much higher price.

Oregon and Washington are the only two sections in the United States which produced full crops for 1885. See Government statistics.
