PREFACE.
In presenting this issue of the NEW BEDFORD DIRECTORY for 1901, we hope it will be found as thoroughly revised and complete as any of the many directories which we now publish.
The general public desire for constant consultation an accu- rate work ; and business men realize fully the importance and value of a book of this calibre. Trusting that we have met the requirements of all, and sincerely thanking our many pat- rons and the public for their generous support and kind assist- ance rendered in the compilation of this work,

STREETS, COURTS, AVENUES, ETC.
STREETS, COURTS, AVENUES, ETC.
Giving the location of each street and showing what other streets run from or across, with the number at which they intersect.
The streets of New Bedford, with a few exceptions, are laid out north and south, and east and west. Those running north and south are numbered commencing at Union street, and increasing each way, with the even numbers on the east, and the odd numbers on the west side. Those running east and west are numbered, commencing at the river, and increasing westerly, with the even numbers on the south, and the odd numbers on the north side.
The letters enclosed by parentheses, which follow the name of any street, signify the general bearing of such street from City Hall. Thus School street (S.) is south from the City Hall.
