INSTRUCTIONS TO KEY HOLDERS.
Alarms to be given from the box nearest the location of the fire.
Do not give an alarm for a fire seen at a distance.
To give an alarm, open the door, pull the hook to the bottom of the slot once, and let go. ·
After giving an alarm, remain or leave some one at the box to direct the fireman to the fire, and see that no one interferes with the box.
Do not pull the hook a second time, or allow any one but an officer to do so.
Never open a box except to give an alarm.
The locks are trap locks, and you cannot take out your key until the arrival of a fire engineer with a master key.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS.
In case of a call from Fairhaven for assistance, Engine No. 2 will respond, and no other apparatus without special orders.

Should an alarm be given from any box, except box 3, while a portion of the department is engaged at the fire, the return call not having been given, the two engines, one truck, and hose companies nearest the box, will respond.
All second and third alarms will be given by pulling the box in the usual way.
General alarms will be given by striking 21 twice, when the whole department will respond.
One blow following an alarm will indicate wire broken or burned off; in which case the companies responding to the second alarm from that box will respond the same as on a second alarm, but not lay hose without orders.
Companies responding to second and third alarms will get one round of box before leaving the house.
