ANNUAL REPORT OF THE SELECTMEN.

TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN OF MILFORD :

We herewith submit our report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 1918, with an itemized account of the expenses of the several departments under our supervision.

HIGHWAYS.

The report of the highway surveyor, who has exclusive control of the ordinary repairs of highways, town ways, streets and bridges, will be found under a separate heading. We recommend that a reasonable appropriation be ma le for highways as several of our streets are in need of repairs.

The Massachusetts Highway Commission have delayed the work of remvoing the ledge on the State Highway near the junction of East Main and Medway streets on account of war conditions. It is probable that the work will be undertaken this year. We have signed the necessary releases and are awaiting further action by the Commission.

WATERING STREETS AND LAYING DUST.

Your board was unable to make a satisfactory agreement with the Milford & Uxbridge Street Railway Company to water Main street with their sprinkler during the past year, so the work was done by the highway department. Oil and water were used on many streets and distributed under the supervision of the highway surveyor.

STREET LIGHTING.

During the past year additional street lights were placed on Medway street from the junction of East Main street to Beaver street, through Beaver street to East Main street, through East Main street to the junction of East Main and Medway streets.

The number of street lights now maintained are as fol- OWS :

REGISTRATION OF RETURNED SOLDIERS, SAILORS AND MARINES.

At the request of the Committee appointed by the Gov- ernor of the Commonwealth to welcome the soldiers, sailors and marines returning home, the town clerk is prepared to register all men discharged from the service.

In order to have a complete record of those who have served their Country in the great World War, all officers and men should register immediately upon returning home.

The great task of securing desirable employment for the returning soldiers, sailors and marines is one that will require the enthusiastic support and co-operation of all citizens.

Let us show our interest in these me.i by assisting them to secure positions at a living wage.

The following is an itemized report of the receipts and. expenses of the various departments :
