WARRANT FOR ANNUAL TOWN MEETING


February 1, 1927.


NORFOLK, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Braintree.


Greeting :


In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts, you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in elections therein to meet at the polling places in their respective Precincts, to wit :


Polling place in Precinct No. 1, Town Hall.


Polling place in Precinct No. 2, Legion Building, Hollis Avenue.


Polling place in Precinct No. 3, Hose House, Allen Street.


On Monday, the seventh day of March, 1927, at five forty-five o-clock in the forenoon, then and there to bring in to the wardens of their respective Precincts their votes on the official ballot for a Moderator, Town Clerk, a Town Treasurer, three Selectmen, one member of the Board of Assessors for a term of three years, three Overseers of the Poor, three Highway Surveyors, three Auditors, a Tax Collector, a Tree Warden, two members of the School Committee for a term of three

years, one member of the School Committee for a term of two years to fill vacancy, two Trustees of the Thayer Public Library for a term of two years, one member of the Board of Health for a term of three years, one Water Commissioner and Commissioner of Sinking Funds for a term of three years, one member of the Municipal Lighting Board for a term of three years, one Park Commissioner for a term of three years, five members of the Planning Board for a term of one year, and fifteen Constables.


The polls will be opened at five forty-five o'clock in the forenoon and will be closed at three o'clock in the afternoon.


You are further directed to notify and warn the said inhabitants qualified to vote as aforesaid to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree, on Monday, the fourteenth day of March, 1927, at seven forty-five o'clock in the evening, then and there to act on the following articles, namely :


Article 1. To choose all Town Officers, except those elected by ballot.


Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to autho- rize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow money in anticipation of the revenue of the current financial year.


Article 3. To see if the Town will hold its Treas- urer harmless on his bond from any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank or Trust Company in which the funds of the Town may be on deposit, said Bank or Trust Company being designated by the Selectmen.


Article 4. To see if the Town will hold its Tax Collector harmless on his bond from any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank or

Trust Company in which the funds of the Town may be on deposit, said Bank or Trust Company being designated by the Selectmen.


Article 5. To hear and act upon the report of the several boards of Town Officers, and any com- mittee, and to choose any committee the Town may think proper.


GENERAL GOVERNMENT


Article 6. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for salaries of the Town Officers and the expense of the several depart- ments, including Town Counsel, the bond of the: Town Treasurer and the bond of the Tax Collector.


Article 7. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the expenses of Registration and Elections. :

Article 8. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the support and maintenance of the Town Hall and for the services of Janitors.


CHARITIES


Article 9. . To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the support of the poor, maintenance and repairs of the Braintree Home, the salaries of the superintendent and matron of the Braintree Home, the salary of the Visitor, sal- aries of the Overseers of the Poor, and the purchase of equipment for the Welfare: Department.


Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to be expended under Chapter 118 of the General Laws .-.

SOLDIERS' BENEFITS


Article 11. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the payment of State Aid, military aid, soldiers' burials and soldiers' relief.


POLICE DEPARTMENT


Article 12. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the salaries, pen- sions and expenses of its Police Department, and for the necessary expenses required for the enforcement of the law, including court expenses, and the purchase of equipment for said department.


FIRE DEPARTMENT


Article 13. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the support and maintenance of the Fire Department, for the purchase of new apparatus or equipment therefor, and for hy- drant service.


Article 14. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the maintenance of the fire alarm system, and for the purchase and in- stallation of the new fire alarm boxes.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to ap- point a committee to report to the next Annual Town Meeting on the subject of the construction and erection of a building to house the Police Department and the Headquarters of the Fire Department, or either of said departments.


INSPECTION


Article 16. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the sealing of weights and measures."

Article 17. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the salary of the Inspector of Buildings and expenses of his depart- ment.


Article 18. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the salary of the Inspector of Wires, and for the expenses of his de- partment.


FORESTRY


Article 19. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the suppression of gypsy and brown tail moths, care and planting of trees, and forest fires.


Article 20. To see if the Town will authorize the Selectmen to appoint a committee to investigate the possibility of the Town having a forest.


Article 21. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $200.00 to pay for its share the expense of erecting the Fire Observation Tower on Turkey Hill in Holbrook ... --


HEALTH AND SANITATION.


Article 22." To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the salaries and expenses of the Board of Health, including contagious diseases, vital statistics, inspection of milk, animals; slaughtering, meat and provisions and plumbing, den- tal clinic and tuberculosis nursing, the collection of garbage and the collection of ashesble fususaregg It

Article 24. To see if the Town will accept Chap- ter 535 of the Acts of 1910, authorizing the construc- tion of a system of sewerage.


Article 25. To see if the Town will accept. Chapter 546 of the Acts of 1910, providing for the: addition of the Town. to .. the South Metropolitan Sewerage System.


.- Article 26. To see if the Town will raise and ap- propriate such sums as may be necessary for the con- struction of sewerage and drainag within the Town and authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the: Selectmen to borrow all or any part of said sums in accordance with the provisions of any general or special act, authorizing the Town to borrow for such purpose or take any action relative thereto.


HIGHWAYS


Article 27. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the support of the Highway Department, including salaries, repairs. of highways, town ways and bridges; also, for repairs. and building sidewalks, stone roads, removal of snow, oiling streets, and purchase of equipment for said de- partment.


Article 28. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the construction ef permanent sidewalks.


Article 29. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for street lighting.

the whole or any section or sections of Washington Street, from Capen's Bridge to Central Avenue, and authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Se- lectmen, to borrow all or any part of said sums in accordance with the provisions of law, authorizing the Town to borrow for such purposes, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 31. . To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the purpose of repairing and rebuilding Independence Avenue from the Quincy Line to Capen's Bridge, and authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen to bor- row all or any part of said sums in accordance with the provisions of law, authorizing the Town to borrow for such purposes, or take any action relative thereto.


Article 32. To see if the Town will vote to ap- propriate or raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be necessary and to authorize the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen to borrow such further sums for the purpose of carrying out Decree No. 607 of the County Commissioners in regard to the widening and relocation of Commercial Street and Quincy Avenue to the Weymouth Town Line or act in any manner in relation thereto.


Article 33. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate to repair and rebuild . Union Street, from the location of Washington Street in South Braintree to Commercial Street in East Brain- tree, and authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow all or any part of said sum's in accordance with the provisions of law, authorizing tre Town to borrow for such purposes, or take any action relative thereto. .


Article 34. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the repairing and

rebuilding of Pond Street west of Glendale Road, or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 35. To see what sums of money the Town will raise and appropriate for the repairing and re- building of Park Avenue, from Brewster Avenue to Putnam Avenue, or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 36. To see what sums of money the Town will raise and appropriate for the repairing and re- building of Arbutus Avenue, from Standish Avenue to Washington Street, or take any other action relative thereto. .


Article 37. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the construction of sidewalks on Summer Street in South Braintree, or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 38. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to repair Granite Street from Five Corners in a southerly direction about 2,000 lineal feet or take any other action relative thereto.


Article 39. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to repair and rebuild May Avenue, with a sidewalk on one side of the street from Hollis Avenue to Washington Street.


'Article 40. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to repair and rebuild Hollingsworth Avenue from West Street to a private way-Western Avenue-so-called.


Article 41. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to repair and rebuild Holmes Street from Fairfield Street to Washington St.

Article 42. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to repair and rebuild Walnut Street from Monatiquot Avenue to Hollis Ave.


Article 43. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to construct and build a sidewalk on the westerly side of Independence Ave- nue from Quincy Line to Center Street.


Article 44. To see if the Town will vote to raise. and appropriate a sum of money to install a drain with catch basin on Morrison Road.


Article 45. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to install catch basins and drain Hollinsworth Avenue.


Article 46. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to install a drain with catch basins on Cleveland Avenue and Union Street.


Article 47. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the construction of a suitable sidewalk on Quincy Avenue from Allen Street to Quincy Line.


Article 48. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to widen, straighten and relocate Liberty Street, beginning at the Charles Buker Estate and extending as far as the Mabel C. Lyons Estate on said Liberty Street, running north.


Article 49. To see what sum of money the Town will raise and appropriate for the rebuilding and re- pairing of Liberty Street from No. 385 Liberty Street to a point 1,800 feet south.


Article 50. To see if the Town will vote to in- highway purpose land on Plain Street between the struct the Selectmen to take by eminent domain for N. Y., N. H. & H. R. R. Co. bridge and Liberty Street, or take any other action relative thereto.

To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Standish Avenue, so-called, from Ar- butus Avenue to Myrtle Avenue, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 53. . To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Brow Avenue, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 54. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Brow Avenue Extension, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 55. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Wampatuck Road, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money, for the improvement of said way to be ex- pended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 56. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Massachusetts Avenue, so-called, from

Washington Street to Arbutus Avenue, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assess- ment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 57. To see if the Town will vote to accept. as a town way, Waldron Road; so-called, running westerly from Washington Street as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said Waldron Road, to be ex- pended under the provisions of law authorizing the. assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 58. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Hillview Road, so-called, running west- erly from Washington Street, as laid out by the Select- men, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said Hillview Road, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 59. To see if the Town will vote to accept. as a town way, Ellsworth Street, so-called, leading from Mt. Vernon Street, easterly, then turning north- erly to West Street, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improve- ment of said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 60. . To see if the Town will vote to accept. as a town way, Common Street, so-called, from Wash- ington Street to Sunnyside Park, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.

To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Gardner Terrace, so-called, leading westerly from Washington Street, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 62. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Walnut Street Extension, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 63. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, the northerly Extension of Oak Street, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.

To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Burroughs Road, so-called, 440 feet from Elm Street, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money. for the improve- ment of said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 73. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Dobson Road, so-called, from Commer- cial Street to Hobart Street, as laid out by the Select- men, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 74. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Pleasant View Avenue, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, from Quincy Avenue to the water front and make an appropriation of a sum of money to resurface the said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 75. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Inglewood Street, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way, to be ex- pended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 76. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Argyle Road, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of

Article 77. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Edge Hill Road Extension, from Edge Hill Road to Vinedale Road, as laid out by the Select- men, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 78. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, that part of Elmlawn Road, as laid out by the Selectmen, and not heretofore accepted, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improve- ment of said way, to be expended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 79. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a town way, Wilkins Road, so-called, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of said way, to be ex- pended under the provisions of law authorizing the assessment of betterments, or otherwise.


Article 80. To see if the Town will vote to in- struct its Selectmen to lay out as a town way, Staten Road, so-called.


Article 81. To see if the Town will vote to in- struct its Selectmen to lay out as a town way, Bower Road, so-called.

Article 87. To see if the Town will vote to in- struct the Selectmen, to lay out as a town way, Fern- croft Road, so-called, from Glenrose Avenue, so-called, to Arborway Drive, so-called.


Article 88. To see what sums of money the Town will vote to raise and appropriate for the repairing and rebuilding of West Street, and in addition to the money heretofore appropriated at the annual Town Meeting of. 1924 and 1925.
