WARRANT FOR ANNUAL TOWN MEETING
NORFOLK, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Braintree.
Greeting :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachu- setts you are hereby directed to notify and warn the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree, qualified to vote in elections therein, to meet at the polling places in their respective Precincts, to wit :-
Polling Place in Precinct 1, Town Hall.
Polling Place in Precinct 2, Legion Building, Hol- lis Avenue.
Polling Place in Precinct 3, Hose House, Allen Street.
On Monday, the fifth day of March, 1934, at five forty-five o'clock in the forenoon, then and there to bring in to the Wardens of their respective Precincts their votes on the official ballot for a Moderator, Town Clerk, a Town Treasurer, One Selectman for a term of three years, one member of the Board of Pub- lic Welfare for a term of three years, one member of the Board of Public Welfare for a term of one year, one member of the Borad of Assessors for a term of three years, one Water Commissioner and Commis- sioner of Sinking Fund for a term of three years, two members of the School Committee for a term of three years, one member of the Municipal Lighting Board for a term of three years, one member of the Board of Health for a term of three years, one Sewer Com-

missioner for a term of three years, one Sewer Com- missioner for a term of one year, two Trustees of Thayer Public Library for a term of two years, one Park Commissioner for a term of three years, one Park Commissiner for a term of two years, one Park Commissioner for a term of one year, a Tax Collector, a Tree Warden, two members of the Planning Board for a term of three years, and fifteen Constables.
The Polls will be opened at five forty-five o'clock in the forenoon and will be closed at three o'clock in the afternoon.
You are further directed to notify and warn the said inhabitants qualified to vote as aforesaid, to meet at the Town Hall in said Braintree on Monday, the twelfth day of March, 1934, at seven forty-five o'clock in the evening, then and there to act upon the follow- ing articles, namely :-
Article 1. To choose all Town Officers, except those elected by ballot.
Article 2. To see if the Town will vote to autho- rize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time in an- ticipation of the revenue of the financial year begin- ning January 1, 1934, and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew such note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws; any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1934.
Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to autho- rize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Se- lectmen, to borrow money from time to time in antici- pation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1935, and to issue a note or notes there-

for, payable within one year, and to renew such note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44, General Laws; any debt or debts incurred under this vote to be paid from the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1935.
Article 4. To see if the Town will vote to autho- rize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Select- men, to borrow money for general municipal pur- poses under authority of and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 49 of the Acts of 1933, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 5. To hear and act upon the report of the several boards of Town Officers, and any commit- tee, and to choose any committee the Town may think proper.
Article 6. To see if the Town will hold its Treas- urer harmless on his bond for any loss which may arise from the failure of any National Bank or Trust Company in which the funds of the Town may be on deposit, said Bank or Trust Company being desig- nated by the Selectmen.

Article 26. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a Town Way, WALNUT STREET, so-called, from Storrs Avenue to Lakeside Drive, Braintree, as laid out by the Board of Survey, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of the said Way.
Article 27. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a Town Way, LAKESIDE DRIVE, so-called, from Walnut Street to Granite Street, Braintree, as laid out by the Board of Survey, and raise and appropriate a sum of money to be ex- pended for the improvement of same.
Article 28. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to accept WESTON AVENUE, so-called, from Tremont Street to Washington Street.
Article 29. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to accept BERWICK STREET, East Brain- tree, running from Shaw Street, easterly.

Article 32. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to construct a sidewalk on Union Street, on the north side, from Middle Street to Cleveland Ave- nue, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of the same.
Article 33. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to abandon that section of old Washington Street, lying between Hancock Street and present Washington Street, as shown on plan No. 279 on file in the Town Engineer's Office.
Article 34. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to construct a sidewalk on THOMPSON ROAD, East Braintree, for a distance of approxi- mately 150 feet, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of the same.
Article 35. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to rebuild Pearl Street from the Pearl Street Railroad Crossing to the Monatiquot River Bridge, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of same.
Article 36. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to construct a Sidewalk on School Street- South side-From Washington Street to Stedman Avenue, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of same.

Article 37. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to accept CEDARCLIFF ROAD, so-called, westerly from Quincy Avenue to Shaw Street, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the im- provement of the same.
Article 38. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to construct a DRAIN on Commercial Court, Precinct Three, and raise and appropriate a sum of money for the improvement of the same.
Article 39. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to construct a DRAIN at the corner of Bick- ford Road and Quincy Avenue, and to raise and ap- propriate a sum of money for the improvement of the same.
Article 40. To hear the report of the Selectmen relative to the laying out of the following streets, un- der the provisions of Chapter 82 of the General Laws, and to see if the Town will vote to accept said streets, as and for public ways, and will authorize the Select- men to take by eminent domain, or acquire by pur- chase, any land necessary for said laying out; provide the sum or sums necessary to pay the cost of Land Damages thereof, or take any action relating thereto:
Bradley Road from Cleveland Avenue to Cross Street.
Pleasant View Avenue from Vinedale Road 800 feet west.
Arnold Street from Middle Street 1250 feet north.
Trefton Drive from Agyle Road to Vinedale Road. Perry Road from Elmlawn Road to Bowers Road.

MISCELLANEOUS
Article 41. To see if the Town will vote to take by eminent domain or acquire by purchase, land be- longing to Robert E. Whitman, bounded by Pond Street, Canal Street, Sunset Lake and the Canal lead- ing therefrom, to reimburse him for Land Damages by reason of the flooding of said land, and to raise and appropriate such sum of money as may be neces- sary therefor.
Article 42. To see if the Town will vote to ap- point a Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures.
Article 43. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate $2,000.00 for the purpose of acquiring land fronting on Cleveland Avenue, south of and adjoining land now known as the Penniman Scholl grounds, such land to be for the purpose of increasing the school grounds and making possible the development of a playground area for community recreaational activities.
Article 44. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to restrict swimming in Sunset Lake to the inhabitants of the Town of Braintree.
Article 45. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the moderator to appoint a committee of five to petition the Legislature not later than its next annual session for an act that will per- mit the voters to accept or reject, in such manner as the act may require, a Town Manager Form of Government, substantially as set forth in a report re- ceived by the town at its 1932 Annual Town Meeting.
Article 46. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of eight

hundred fifty eight ($858.00) dollars to pay the an- nual pension of Peter Kearney, retired laborer, for- merly employed by the Electric Light Department, said sum being an amount not inexcess of one half the sum received by him by way of compensation an- nually at the time of his retirement.
Article 47. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to amend its By-Laws regarding construction work, by adding the following section in Article 5 :- In construction work under all departmets and in construction work® under town contracts, a machine cannot be used in excavating or refilling for cellars or foundations, or pipe laying, and in excating or re- filling, in constructing and repairing of streets, ex- cept in excavating rock or ledge. Provision :- The Selectmen may issue a special permit to use a ma- chine when they consider and conclude that hand la- bor is too scarce, provided such machine will not create a nuisance in noise and dust to near-by in- habitants.
Article 48. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to amend its BY-LAWS by adding a new section to refer to employees and adopt the follow- ing: "All labor and mechanics employed by the Town and labor and mechanics employed working under a town contract, are permitted to work not more than 35 hours per week. Provision :- The Selectmen may issue a special permit to an employee to work longer time if after consideration they conclude that the satisfactory available help is absorbed and the ex- igency deems it best to do so. Permit to extend for 4 months or take any other action relative thereto.
Article 49. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to assist Braintree Post No. 86, American Legion and

Braintree Post No. 1702, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in defraying expenses of Memorial Day as follows :-

Article 50. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $1,521.34 to reimburse Clarence R. Bestick, Tree Warden, of Braintree, for services rendered and materials supplied by him in connection with C. W. A. project No. 812 for tree trimming, the Federal contribution to which was $3,078.00 for labor.
Article 51. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to cover the Town's share of materials, trucking and other necessary ex- penditures in connection with such C. W. A. projects as may be approved by the Finance Committee.
Article 52. To see if the Town will authorize the Moderator to appoint a committee to rename all streets which contain a duplication of name; and to see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money for this purpose, or take any action relative thereto.
Article 53. To see if the Town will authorize the Moderator to appoint a committee to co-operate with the Histrical Society of Braintree in the celebration of Braintree's 300th Anniversary-1940.
Article 54. ON PETITION. To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $225.00 for the Salaries of the Auditors elected by the Town at the Annual Election of 1932.

Article 55. To see if the Town will authorize its Selectmen to sell at Public Auction, real estate now in its possession by reason of foreclosure of Tax Titles or otherwise, or take any action relative to the dis- position of such property.
Article 56. To see what action the Town will take on unpaid bills for various departments for the years 1932 and 1933.
You are directed to serve this warrant by posting true and attested copies thereof in three public places in each voting Precinct in said Town of Braintree, ten days at least before said fifth day of March, 1934, and by publishing the same once each week for two successive weeks in the Braintree Citizen, the first publication to be at least eight days before said meeting.

To see if the Town will vote to appro- priate from the income of the Electric Light Depart- ment, the sum of $255.00 for salaries of the Electric Light Commissioners; the sum of $24,720.53 for De- preciation Fund; and the sum of $306,556.50 together with the unexpended balance of the year 1933 of $7,839.41 for operating expenses, renewals, repairs, and new construction; and to see if the Town will vote to accept from the Electric Light Department the sum of $15,157.25 to apply on the 1934 tax levy, the same to be paid into the treasury of the Town on receipt of settlement of the bills of the various Town departments due the Electric Light Department for the year 1933, carried on the books of the Electric Light Department, reducing the same by that amount.
Article 4. To see if the Town will vote authorize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money for the municipal purposes, under authority and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 49 of the Acts of 1933, or take any action relative thereto.
