At a lawful annual town meeting of the freeholders and other inhabitants of the Town of Andover convened the 4th of March 1744/5.


Capt. Timothy Johnson was chose Moderator for said meeting. There followed the usual list of Town Officers.

At said town meeting, it was voted to see if the tom would raise about 240 pounds old tenor to defray ye said town's necessary charges the ensuing year and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the tom would mend and maintain their highways the same method as they did the year past and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town would raise about 200 pounds old tenor for the mending and maintaining of their highways the year ensuing and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if swine may go at large on the common the year en- suing if yoked and ringed in the nose according as the law directs and it passed on the affirmative.


Samuel Asten Jr., Thomas Farnum Jr., Sherebiah Ballard, Daniel Hutchinson, Thomas Abbott Jr., was chosen to clear the fish courses at in Andover for the fish called "alewives" as the year ensuing.


It was voted to see if the tom would allow the Holt's Corner their pro- portionable part of pay for schooling in schooling at their schoolhouse and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town would allow the northwesterly part of the town their proportional part of the pay for schooling in schooling, they oblig- ing themselves to provide as good a schoolhouse as any in the said town, and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if ye tom would allow unto Capt. Joseph Sibsom(?), Steven Abbott, and Josiah Ballard seven pounds and fourteen shillings old tenor for building and maintaining fish gutter at the mill commonly called Ballard's Mill and it passed on the affirmative.

It was voted to see if the town would accept of a way laid out by the selectmen beginning at Samuel Abbott's new house at a bound of land said Abbott purchased of John Wilson and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town would accept of a town way laid out by the selectmen adjoining to the northerly side of Henry Phelp's land and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town would accept of a town way laid out by the selectmen beginning at the southerly end near the bridge called Russ Meadow Bridge and it is to be no charges to the town and it passed in the af- firmative.


It was voted to see if the town would accept of a draftroad laid out by the selectmen into Shawsheen Field beginning at the road by the Widow Marth on the


Gfaunger' s/east end said Widow's house and barn and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town would accept of a draftway laid out by the selectmen beginning a little westerly of the house of Joshua Stevens with a stake and stones and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the tom would accept of a road laid out by the selectmen beginning at ye high plain and so onto Tewksbury by Joseph Baylie's and it passed on the negative.


The said town meeting was adjourned to ye 15th day of this inst. month at 12 of the clock. Ye said day ye town met ye abovesaid day and it was voted to see if ye town would accept of Peter Pevey to serve the town as Constable for Joshua Foster, who was chose Constable on said day and it passed in the af- firmative.

At a lawful town meeting of ye freeholders and others of the inhabitants Esq. of the Town of Andover convened on the 13th day of May 1745, Jehn Osgood/was chosen Moderator of said town meeting.


It was voted to see if the town would lay down or discontinue a draftway formerly laid out from Joshua Stevens' house into the tom road near the place commonly called the Pople Hole, which was land through John Stevens' and Tim- othy Stevens' land and John Barnard's land and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town are willing to accept of a town road laid out from Wood Hill to Tewksbury Line near Joseph Baylie's land, it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the town would allow the petitioners their charges they were at about said way, which was ten pounds old tenor, they paying back the ten pounds old tenor if there should be a jury(?) sent upon said way and it passed on the affirmative.


It was voted to see if the . town will hear and answer the petition of Nathaniel Lovejoy Jr. and others and the said petition was dismissed.


At a lawful town meeting of the freeholders and otherx of the inhabitants of the Town of Andover convened on the 16th day of September 1745, Capt. fim- othy Johnson was chosen Moderator for said town meeting.


It was voted to see if the town would allow Robert Swan liberty to run his fence straight to take in the old claypits at Miller's Meadow, he allowing the town liberty to dig clay in his own land adjoining to said old claypits so far as a committee shall judge convenient. He, said Swan, a convenient pair of draw bars for people to pass and repass to make bricks there and to carry said bricks and clay, said Swan allowing ye town liberty to fence a yard to make bricks/ on there.

Daniel Dane, Lt. Nathaniel Frye, Jonathon Farnum were chose a committee to bound said Swan's land adjoining to ye aforementioned old claypits so far as they shall think it convenient for the town to dig clay in.

At said town meeting, it was voted to see if ye town would accept of a road laid out by ye selectmen beginning at ye west end of Wood Hill to Tewksbury Line to Nathaniel Dayle's and it was passed on ye affirmative.

It was put to vote to see if the town would alter a bridle road leading from Nathan Chandler's part of the way to the meetinghouse that is to say after the said road from that place so that it begins at a gate about midway between south said Chandler's and Joseph Baxby's to/southeasterly through said Chandler's land, at a place called Soumek Hole, so on the same course through said Baxby's land on ye west side of marked tree to the abovesaid bridle path and it passed in the negative.

At said tom meeting it was put to vote to see if the town would give in their reasons why the ferrymen's fees on Merrimake River should not be raised and it passed in the affirmative.


It was voted likewise that selectmen should give in the reasons why the ferrymen's fees should not be raised.


It was put to vote to see if town would allow Mr. Zebariah Chandler and other petitioners their costs they have been at rating to the abovesaid road and it passed in the negative.


At a lawful annual town meeting of freeholders and other inhabitants of the town of Andover convened on the 7th day of March 1747/8.


John Osgood Esq. was chosen Moderator for said town meeting.


Benjamin Stevens was chosen Town Clerk for the year ensuing.

It was put to vote that the tom would allow the selectmen their costs and charge they expended in opposing the road laid out by order of court and it passed in the affirmative.


If was put to vote to see if the town would discontinue a draftway that leads to Nathan Chandler's land and so far through Joseph Bixby's land til you come to the way where the courtscometh laid to where the south meetinghouse and it passed in the affirmative.


It was put to vote tà see if the town would accept of a driftway that leads from Dane Robinson's to Joseph Robinson's by John Barker's Jr. dwelling house and it passed in the negative.


At a lawful town meeting of the freeholders and other inhabitants of the Town of Andover met at the North Meetinghouse in said town on April the 7th, 1748, at 3 of the clock in the afternoon.

It was put to vote to see if the town would alter a road that leads from Dane's Benjamin Stevens's to Daniel Nameis to where it is now trod and it passed in the affirmative.


It was put to vote to see if the town would discontinue a road that leads from Joseph Parker Jr. 's to Foster's atdo? Hey and so to the road that leads from Benjamin Barker's Jr. to the tail of the pond and it passed in the affirmative.

It was put to vote to see if the town would appoint a particular place on Cochechock Brook for catching the fish called "alewives" and it passed in the af- firmative, and all parts of said brookis forbidden from the pond to the river brig only in the main brook from Joseph Parker Jr.'s Grist Mill to the deig in the country road that leads to Bradford.


It was also voted that no persons shall catch any of the fish called "ale- wives" in any of the fish gutters by the mill on Shawsheen River and all persons are forbidden from catching any of the fish called "alewives" at Ratelsnake Mill.


It was also voted that no person shall catch any of the fish called "alewives" in Blanchard's Pond Brook from the bridge by Nathaniel Abbott's to the river.


At a lawfull town meeting of the freeholders and other inhabitants of the tom of Indover qualified for voting in town meetings as the law directs met at the North Meetinghouse in said tom on thursday the 8th of November at 1 of the clock 1750 in the afternoon.
