Jan. 2, 1932. The Annual Roll Call and business meeting of the First Congregational Church was held on January 2, 1932.) It was a novel one in that we had an open meeting and invited all the townspeople and had a combined meeting and reception for our new pastor Rev Burleigh Mr. Matthews and Mrs. Matthews. a splendid chicken pie supper was served by the seacon's wives, to about 100 quests. The L'orology was sung by all and Kev. Matthews offered prayer.


After the supper people retired to the auditorium where Mrs Knowlton played selections on the organ

The meeting was called to order by the clerk. Mr. Gobert J. Streeter was chase & moderator. The Roll Call was read and showed 39 members present and responses were given by 28 others. The clerk reported membership in 1930 was 95. During the year a letter of dismissal was granted. to Mrs. Constance Elderx Thompson. There was noloss of members ip by death during 1931. On april 5, 1939 eight persons were received into membership on confession of faith. Making a total membership of 102. Males 32, Females 70.

Mrs. Robinson reported that the Auditor had had the church books and had approved and signed them.


Organ Mr. Clarence Brown reported Committee that the pledges to the Organ Fund were coming in slowly and that there was a bout $30 yet to pay


At this time Mr. Brown spoke of the general condition of the church. He stated that he had just been able to pay the Pastor's salary that this next year the insurance would be due again. He explained that this past year the invested funds had not been yielding as much as in previous

years and that it would be necessary for Every members to make a special effort to helpthe church. Hesuggested that a committee might be for me dito formulate aletter to be sent members and friend. to unge their loyal support.


Motion That a committee of three be appointed to formulate and send a letter to the members of the church to request their support in the finances of the church. By Mr. Spooner that the personnel of this committee should. be: Miss Gladys Campbell, Mrs. O.W. Robinson and Mr. Clarence Brown. So voted.

Pastor


(If this time the Moderator asked for a report, if any, from the Pastor. Rev. Matthews said that he had no formal report but that he would review what he considered some of the high lights of the year's work since this marked the close of his first year as our pastor. He mentioned the fine cooperation of the young People' Society They have been invited to several regular meetings and socials outside of the town such as Monson, Palmer and Wales Such a spirit of friendliness and cooperation is anasset. He praised the staff of officers and teachers of the Sunday School for their fine work during the year. He mentioned the work of the Daily Vacation Bible School, noting the clerk in her report gave credit only to Mr. and Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. J. Edgar Brown, but he felt that there were many others who gave just as much of their time and effort and should berecognized. Mr. Matthew

The annual roll call and business meeting of the First Congregational Church which was postponed from the 19th of December because of the severe cold weather, was held on January 1, 1934 at 2:30 o'clock. The pastor led in a brief devotional service in which we sang the hymn "Take My Life and Let It Be" Mr. Mathews read, for a scripture les converses from the 6th chapter of matthew, and then he led in prayer followed by "The Lord's Prayer" The business meeting was called to order by the Clerk and Mr. Robert J. Streeter was chosen as moderator. The roll call showed 26 members present and with the responses sent in by absent members, there was a total response of 55. The Clerk reported the membership at the beginning of the Har was 105. Mal members 33 and female members 72,. During the year 5 members were admitted to membership on confessionsof faith, and 3 by letter from other churches. On March 13,1933 we ever grieved by the loss of a faithful member, both to the church and to the Town as a whole; Miss anna Tarbell. On September, 6, 1933 we again

Lost another faithfull member for a long period of time and one who showed keen interests all affairsof the church, to the end of herlife. This was Mrs. Ursula allen Chase. thenagain, on December 17, 1933 we lost Mrs. Maria J. Royce. She, too, infested anas terest in'church watters as shown by the fact that just a week or so before the passing she handed to our Pastor, a set of Church envelopes which she had filled to give her share to the upkeep of the church. Therefore, the membership at the beginning of the new year is 110. Male 35 and Female To. The report of the Clerk was read and voted to be accepted. Ch Entertainment Comm. Elaine Phillips It is the duty of the Look out committee to see that any new comers to town are invited to join our society, and other people now here are invited so as to increase our membership. The Entertainment committee decides the type of entertainment to be given to our quests at socials.

The Social Committee has charge of the socials. They see to such items as date, time, and place of any sociale. Our regular meetings are held each Sunday evening at 7:00 S. M. in the Church vestry. the topics we use are taken from the Christian Endeavor World" a magazine to which we subscribed for the first time this year. If there is any business to be discussed we hold a short business meeting at the end of this regular meeting. This year we have had only one special meeting. That was when This. Gay of Springfield spoke to us. She told what was being done by other societies like ours in the Eastern Hampden Union. This Union has meetings several times a year when delegates are sent from each society. The towns which are included in this Union are: Monson, Thorndike, Bondsville, Palmer, Three Rivers, Wilbraham, Pine Point and Brimfield They also hold sociale to which every- ne is invited. This server to acquaint ( with other people in Churchwork in this section, besides giving us ideas on how to conduct our own society. One of our members, Eleanor Brown is secretary of this Union. The aim of our society is to promote the interest of the young people from the ages of 10-21 in the church.
