AN ORDINANCE RELATIVE TO ABOLISHING A TAX LIMIT City of Newburyport In City Council


April 3, 1945.


Ordered:


Be it ordained by the City Council as follows:


That in accordance with Chapter 44, Section 10 and Section 29 of the General Laws, which gives the City Council the authority to establish, increase, or abolish a Tax Limit.


In Chapter 13, of the revised ordinances of the City, the ordinance establishing a Tax Limit, twenty eight ($28.00) dollars, per one thousand dollars, of the average valua- tion, of taxable property, within the City of Newburyport, is hereby abolished.


This action to take effect upon its final passage.

AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND "AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE OFFICE OF CITY MESSENGER" City of Newburyport In City Council


June 4, 1945.


Be it ordained as follows:


Section one of "An Ordinance Establishing the office of City Messenger" is hereby amended by striking out the word "annually" in the first line of said Section 1, and by inserting in place thereof, the words "every three years."


Said Section 1, of said Ordinance is further amended by adding thereto the following: Section two. Except as otherwise provided in Section 1, the duties of the City Mess- enger shall cease at six P. M. on every secular day which is not a holiday. On Satur-

days of each week his duties shall cease at one P. M. For all hours during which the City Messenger shall work on Sundays and holidays and after six P. M. on secular days, and after one P. M. on Saturdays, he is to receive such additional compen- sation as the City Council shall allow him each month.

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ENTER INTO MUTUAL AID SYSTEM City of Newburyport In City Council


October 1, 1945.


Be it hereby engrossed and ordained by the City Council:


Section 1. The Chief of the Fire Department is hereby authorized to enter into a mutual aid system with such cities and towns contiguous to Newburyport as he may deem ad- visable :- said agreement to be subject to the approval of the Mayor and City Council. Section 2. In order to comply with this provision, the Chief is authorized to send New- buryport Fire apparatus and men to such cities and towns who enter into such mutual aid agreements.


Section 3. If accepted, this ordinance is passed in compliance with the provisions of Section 59A, of General Laws.
