Report of Registrars of Voters
The Registrars of Voters have held twenty-six meetings during the year, the first meeting was held May 26th, 1909, for the purpose of arranging for registration for the Special Elec- tion, called by the Board of Aldermen for June 8th, 1909, to vote upon the following questions: "Brick or concrete fire station, $10,000 appropriation for same"; "Permanent im- provements of the highways. Order appropriating $17,000 for the same." A continuous session for registration was held on June 4, 1909 in the Aldermanic Chamber from 12 o'clock noon until 10 o'clock p.m.
Both questions were defeated at the polls, the Registrars were in session all day, and received the returns in the evening. The annual meeting was held August 20, 1909. Harry C. Woodill was unanimously elected chairman; W. De Haven Jones, secretary.
Check lists of the seven wards were revised and 432 names were dropped. Restored 185; total number dropped, 247. Meetings held for registering the voters for the State election November 2, 1909.
