City scales, and in addition to these, goods of outside parties have been weighed and,the fees established by ordinance, col- lected. These collections amount to $29.20, and have been paid to the Treasurer.

PARKS.

The bath house at the Point, Ell Pond Park, was com- pleted August 12, and was open to the public from August 12 to September 20. During this time it was made use of by 3,036 bathers; of which number about 600 were women and girls. Two attendants were required, one in the bath house, and one in a boat on the pond. Many men and women with their children were attracted to this spot on account of the bathing. There was also more boating on the pond than formerly, owing to better bathing regulations.

Near the bath house is an ideal location for an open air gymnasium, the bath house being used for dressing rooms and the same attendants having charge of both bath house and gymnasium.

The section of Ell Pond Park consisting of the knoll, the low land in its immediate vicinity and the strip of land about 100 feet wide extending from the knoll to the point where the bath house is located, could be made very attractive by build- ing a road-way from Lynn Fells Parkway surrounding the knoll and out to the Point, and cleaning and grading the grounds; this can be done at small expense as the ground is firm.

On the Common the ball field has been kept in good con- dition and on the westerly end near Larrabee Street, play- ground apparatus was constructed, consisting of a six swing outfit and a three board see-saw outfit, made by A. G. Spauld- ing & Bros. These were in use when the weather permitted.

It was found necessary on account of noise to have the swings locked at nine p.m., and on Sundays.
