HON. WILLIAM DAVIS was the son of Thomas and Mercy (Hedge) Davis, born in Plymouth; a well known and highly respected merchant, as well as a valued member of the community. He was ardently devoted to the interests of his native town, and having been early called to engage in its municipal affairs, he entered into its duties assiduously. He never sought political distinction, and whenever called into public service it was with reluctance. He represented the town of Plymouth in the General Court as Representative, and in 1812 and 1813 was a member of the Executive Coun-

cil; one of the Selectmen of the town for about thirty years; President of the Ply- mouth Bank, and at the time of his death was Vice-President of the Pilgrim Society, in which he was deeply interested. He was of cheerful temper, of social habits, faith- ful and discreet in the discharge of his public trusts, and displayed an energy and activity which served to animate and cheer others with whom he was associated, and his death caused a deep, heartfelt sorrow.
MR. DAVIS married Rebecca, daughter of Nathaniel and Rebecca (Jackson) Mor- ton, of Plymouth, 1781, and had William, 1783: Nathaniel Morton, 1785; Thomas, 1791 : Elizabeth, 1803, married Alexander Bliss; and George Bancroft. Mr. Davis was grandfather of Hon. William T. Davis, the historian of Plymouth.

JOHN WATSON was the son of John and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Watson. He grad- uated at Harvard College, 1766; was one of the early founders of the Old Colony Club, in 1769, and the last surviving member of that association. He was the first vice-president of the Pilgrim Society, and succeeded Judge Thomas as president of the same, which office he held till his death.
Mr. Watson was the proprietor of "Clark's " Island, in Plymouth harbor, where he resided for forty years ; a spot to which he was very much attached, affording to him many antiquarian associations, in which he delighted to indulge, and to recount to his family and friends.

REV. ADONIRAM JUDSON was the first Pastor of the Third Congregational Society of Plymouth, and was installed May 12, 1802. He was born in Woodbury, Conn., graduated at Yale College 1775, was pastor of a church in Malden from January, 1788, to September, 1701; in Wenham, Mass., 1792 to 1799.
In 1817 he, having changed his views and become a Baptist, was dismissed Aug., 1817. He died in Scituate in 1826.
His children were Elnathan, who became a surgeon in the United States Navy; Abigail, and Adoniram (born in Malden, August 9, 1788), who became a noted mission- ary at Burmah for about forty years. He graduated at Brown University 1807, An- dover Seminary IS10. At one time he kept a private school in Plymouth, and was the author of "Elements of English Grammar" and "Young Ladies' Arithmetic," published in 1808 and 1809. . He was ordained February 6, 1812, and married, Ist, Ann Haseltine, who died in 1826; 2d, Mrs. Sarah Boardman, in April, 1834, widow of the late George Dana Boardman, also a missionary in India. She died September 1, 1845. 3d, Emily Chubbuck, well known as " Fanny Forrester," June, 1846. He pub- lished a sermon on baptism In 1812 and a Dictionary of the Burman Language in 1826

LION. ZABDIEL SAMPSON, son of George and Hannah (Cooper) Sampson, was born in Plympton, August 22, 1781. In early life his aim was to receive a collegiate edu- cation. To this end he devoted all his time and best energies. It was while at work at the anvil that he did his best studying, carrying on both branches in the black- smith's shop at the same time. He graduated at Brown University in ISo3, and was, the first person who received a liberal education, at any college, from the town of Plympton. He studied Law and was admitted to the Bar, and commenced the practice of his profession in Fairhaven, Mass. He next removed to Plymouth, where he passed the remainder of his life. He was often called to public office, and enjoyed the confidence of his fellow-citizens, having been chairman of the Board of Selectmen of Plymouth several years. In 1818 he was elected Representative to Congress, for one term of two years. In 1820 he was Collector of the Port of Plymouth, which po- sition he retained with honor to himself till his death. It was his privilege to enjoy the special friendship of Daniel Webster, and it was through his agency mainly that the Act of Congress was passed allowing bounties to fishermen, in the form of a draw- back of the duty on salt, which has done so much to encourage the fishing interests in Massachusetts.
He married Ruth, daughter of Capt. Ebenezer and Judith Lobdell of Plympton, October 18, 1804, by whom he had ten children.

DR. LOTHROP was the son of Isaac, Esq , and Priscilla (Thomas) ( Watson) Lothrop of Plymouth, and in the fifth generation of his respected ancestor, John Lothrop. He

graduated at Harvard University, at the head of the class of 1756. For many years he was the oldest person in the town, and survived all his old associates and compan- ions, who were his joy and delight.
He left a legacy of five hundred dollars towards the completion of the Hall of the Pilgrim Society, in which he took a deep interest.
"He died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his fathers."
He married Ellen, daughter of Noah Hobart.
