CITY OF QUINCY
REPORT OF THE BOARD OF MANAGERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HISTORICAL PLACES
January 24, 1941.
HONORABLE THOMAS S. BURGIN Mayor, City of Quincy, Massachusetts
Dear Sir:
The Board of Managers of the Department of Historical Places herewith submits its first report:
As the Board has only been in existence about two months it has very little to report excepting progress. Some immediate and necessary repairs have been made at a cost relatively small.
We have, however, under consideration, plans and ideas for improvements in the land; renewals, replacements and restorations in the buildings, it being the intent and purpose of the Board to conserve two of the most historic houses in the nation, the birth- places of John Adams and John Quincy Adams as places of in- terest and inspiration; houses that should survive, for within their walls were born two Presidents of the United States.
For many years the Quincy Historical Society has been the custodian of the John Quincy Adams House and the Daughters of the Revolution custodian of the John Adams House. It is the intention of the Board to permit these two Societies to use and occupy the houses as in the past.
Respectfully submitted,
MAURICE SPILLANE, Chairman HENRY ADAMS LAWRENCE W. LYONS HARRIET B. PIERCE GRACE P. BONSALL,Secretary Board of Managers
