HEODORE NEWTON VAIL, capitalist, was born in Carrol County, Ohio, July 16, 1845. He is the son of Davis and Phoebe .(Quinby) Vail and received his education in Morristown Academy. Mr. Vail was connected with the Railway Mail Service from 1873 to 1878, filling the positions of Asst. Superintendent. Asst. General Superintendent, and General Superintendent. In 1907 he became president of the American Telephone & Tele- graph Co., and New York Telephone Co., and still holds these positions besides being a director of many large corporations. Mr. Vail became greatly interested in electrical enterprises in Argentine, South America, in 1896, and he introduced the American electric system of street railways in Buenos Ayres and installed telephone systems in the principal cities. Among the clubs of which Mr. Vail is a member, are: New York Club, Union League Club and New York Athletic Club, all of New York City, and the Union Club and Exchange Club of Boston.
