A Red Staff is the distinguishing badge of the Engineers. The other Firewards carry a trumpet painted red, with the word "Fire- ward," in gilt letters upon a black ground, placed on the bowl thereof.


In case of fires occurring in any of the neighboring villages, the following Engines, and no others, may leave the town without the special permission of one of the Engineers.
