Moses How, Agent of the Society and Pastor of the Bethel Church.
The New Bedford Port Society has for its object the moral im- provement of seamen. It operates directly through its Agent, Moses How, who is also Pastor of the Bethel Church, maintained by the Society.
The Meetings at the Bethel are well attended, and manifest a de- cidedly increasing interest in the cause of religion, and in the pros- perity and well being of the Sailor.
The Pastor of the Bethel is indefatigable in the performance of his duties. He has kept record of the crews of many ships sailing from this port; he has attended to the settlement of their voyages for sea- men inexperienced in such matters ; he has visited the sick, cared for the wanderer, reproved the erring and encouraged the repentant, and has distributed on board of ships sailing to all parts of the world Bibles, Tracts, Testaments, &c., which have without doubt borne fruit in places that had else seemed barren of all good.
