The Society known as such from the earliest history of New Bedford have a large brick meeting-house on Spring street, be- tween Sixth and Seventh streets; the other is composed of those who separated from the larger Society in 1847, and occupy a meeting-house on Fifth street. Friends do not recognize the pastoral relation as it exists in connec- tion with other Societies.

This domestic mission may be considered as firmly es- tablished. There are now two mission chapels, one in Howland chapel, Purchase street, 150 scholars, F. L. Gil- man, Superintendent, and the other on South Water, cor. Leonard street, 150 scholars, T. R. Dennison, Superinten- dent. In these chapels, religious services are held, and Sunday Schools maintained.
