Rockland. Born 1834 in Penobscot Co., Mainc. Educated iu Public Schools and Bradford Academy, Maine. Came to East Abington (now Rockland) 1856, and learned the carpenter trade. After three years worked in shoe shop. Enlisted in 1864 in Co. A, 6o.h Massachusetts Infantry, and saw service with regi- ment. Being a good carpenter, was detailed huilding barracks, etc. Returning home, engaged again with Jenkins, Lane & Sons., then the largest factory in town or county, remaining till 1871. Two years in ice business with H. A. Baker. Returned to shoe business, foreman stitching room, Tower & Gurney five years. Charge of fitting room Whitman & Tucker. 1885 iu ice business again and still in it, cutting ice on Thompson's Pond; houses 2,000 tous capacity; market, North Abington and Rockland. Though 69 years old. Mr. Clark is capable of a good day's work. Married Sarah A Trufant, daughter of Auios and Ann (Terrill) Trufant, of Boston. Children, William A., iu dry goods business, Rockland, since his seventeenth year; now, at 42, owns Rock- land Dry Goods Store. Recently opened branch in Concord, N. H., as Clark Bros. Another sou, A. Seymour, connected with Wm. A. and Albert Linwood, just out of school. Edith Clark, danghter, has charge of millinery department Rockland Dry Goods Store.

South Hingham Born at South Hingham, 1827. Education obtained in district schools until 16, working in summer on farm with father. At 16 left home and learned carpenter trade in Bos- ton until 21. Worked two months in Boston after he was free. Then returned home and first work was helping father build home on South Pleasant street, which still stands. Next built house in which he now resides, occupying it January 15, 1851. Followed carpentering till 1860. Went into the grocery business, convert- ing his carpenter shop into grocery store, which he conducted 29 years. While conducting grocery business built a number of houses, among the best heing Rev. Joseph Jacobs' and the Pridee House. Forty-eight years ago built Wm. C. Wilder's house. Since giving up grocery business has lived retired. Director for 25 years Hing- ham M. F. Insurance Co., Director Hingham Institute for Sav- ings. A member of Second Unitarian Chruch for 50 years.
