A two-story mansion with ell, containing 12 rooms, situated on a southerly slope, contains wainscoting in some rooms, 24 inches wide and 15 feet long in single pieces. The old doors with wide panels and quaint latches, retained in dining room. Fine old elms and ash trees ornament the grounds, dating back to 1800. Elms planted 1840 by Rev. S. J. May. A spring on a side hill furnishes water, forced into a tall tower built of stones on high ground and forming one of the distinctive fea- tures. Products are chiefly milk and hay. Boston business men find this an ideal place to send horses at all seasons of year. Part of farm originally occupied hy Wm. Blackmore, killed by In- dians April 20, 1676, while defending his family. Wife and chil- dren escaped to "Block Honse " near by. See Deane's history of Scituate, p. 125. Present house built 1790 by Capt. Elijah Curtis. Subsequently place known as Jonathan Stetson's place.
