Voted unanimously that the Town appropriate the sum of $2,900 for the purchase of (1) a 21/2 ton pick-up truck; (2) a 11/2 ton dump truck ; and (3) a blade for snow removal; that the sum of $2,900 be taken from "Road Machinery Fund"; that in connection herewith the Town authorize the trade, sale or other disposition of the present 1934 pick-up truck and the 1935 dump truck ; and that the purchase be made by the Highway Surveyor with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.


Article 8. To see if the Town will appropriate and assess a sum of money for the defense of the Town, said money to be expended by the Defense Committee under the supervision of the Board of Selectmen, or do or act.


Voted unanimously that the Town appropriate and assess a sum of $2,500 for the Civilian defense of the Town, the money to be expended by the Defense Committee with the approval of the Board of Selectmen.


Article 9. To see if the Town will vote to change the office of Highway Surveyor to that of three Road Commissioners, pursuant to Chapter 41 of the General Laws, the term of each Commissioner to be for three years and to be effective with the annual election in 1943, or do or act.


Voted that the Town change the office of Highway Sur- veyor to that of three Road Commissioners by abolishing the office of Highway Surveyor and providing for the election of three Road Commissioners, pursuant to Chapter 41 of the Gen- eral Laws, effective with the annual election in 1943, at which time one commissioner shall be elected for one year, one for two years and one for three years and thereafter, one commis- sioner shall be elected each year to serve for a term of three years.


Article 10. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate and assess a sum of money to be used for the preparation of

Assessors' Maps, the surveying and compilation to be done under the joint supervision of the Planning Board and the Board of Assessors, or do or act.


Voted that the Town appropriate and assess the sum of $2,000 to be used in the preparation of Assessors' Maps, the surveying and compliation work to be done under the joint supervision of the Planning Board and the Board of Assessors.


Article 11. To see if the Town will vote to accept as a public town way under the Betterment Act, Lakeview Road from Cochituate Road to Crest Road, in that part of the Town known as Cochituate, as laid out by the Board of Selectmen, and as shown on a plan or plans on file with the Town Clerk; to authorize the Board of Selectmen to acquire any necessary land by eminent domain, purchase or otherwise ; and to appro- priate and assess a sum of money to cover the acquisition of such land and the construction of said way or any part thereof, or do or act.


Voted unanimously that the Town accept as a public way under the Betterment Act, Lakeview Road, from Cochituate Road to Crest Road, in that part of the Town known as Cochit- uate, as laid out by the Board of Selectmen and as shown in plans by Everett Brooks, dated January, 1942, on file with the Town Clerk; that the Board of Selectmen be authorized to acquire any necessary land by right of eminent domain, pur- chase or otherwise; and that the Town appropriate and assess the sum of $2,700 to cover the acquisition of such land and the construction of said way or any part thereof, the work to be done by the Highway Surveyor under supervision of the Board of Selectmen.


Article 12. To see if the Town will vote to appropriate and assess the sum of $2,200 for the installation of a 6-inch water main on Lakeview Road for a distance of 1,050 feet, with two hydrants, three gates and necessary fittings, or do or act.

Voted unanimously that the Assessors be authorized to use a sum not exceeding $10,000 from available funds in the Treas- ury toward the reduction of the 1942 tax rate.


Article 14. To see if the Town will appoint a committee to study the conditions existing in Dudley Pond due to growth of weeds therein, said committee to report at the next Annual Town Meeting.


Voted that the Town appoint a committee of five to study conditions existing in Dudley Pond due to the growth of weeds therein, such a committee to be composed of one member of the Park Board, one member of the Water Board, one member of the Board of Assessors, and two others to be chosen by the three members so designated, said committee to report at the next Town Meeting.


Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to accept the provisions of Chapter 136, Sections 7 & 8 of the General Laws as amended, or do or act.


Voted unanimously that the Town hereby accepts sections 7 and 8 of Chapter 136 of the General Laws of the Common- wealth as heretofore amended.


"The selectmen of a town, may grant, to any reputable person who on secular days is a retail dealer in frozen desserts and/or ice cream mix, confectionery, soda water or fruit and who does not hold a license for the sale of alcoholic beverages, as defined in section one of chapter one hundred and thirty-eight, a license to keep open his place of business on the Lord's day for the sale of frozen des- serts and/or ice cream mix, confectionery, soda water or fruit."


"Every license granted under the preceding section shall specify the street or place and the number, if any, or if there is no number, the location of the place of business in which the license is to be exercised, and the license shall not be valid in any other place. Such licenses shall expire on April thirtieth of each year; but they may be granted during April, to take effect on May first following. The fee for such license shall not be more than five dollars a year, and it may be suspended or revoked by the officer or board granting the same."

To see if the Town will amend its By-laws by adding to the present By-laws a new article, substantially as follows: "The Board of Selectmen shall have the authority to license suitable persons to be collectors of, dealers in or keepers of shops for the purchase, sale or barter of junk, old metals or second-hand articles, may make rules and regulations relative to their business, and may provide for the supervision thereof. The Board of Selectmen may make additional rules, regulations and restrictions which shall be expressed in all licenses. Said licenses may be revoked at pleasure, and shall be subject to Sec- tions 202 to 205 inclusive of Chapter 140 of the General Laws, relating to the issuing of certain licenses, as provided in the General Laws, Chapter 140, Section 54, except that societies, associations or corporations organized solely for religious or charitable purposes and their agents shall not be required to pay a fee for such licenses," or do or act.

Cam- eron Biewend dated July 18, 1941, recorded with said Deeds, Book 6519, Page 21. (3) Conveyance by deed of Harold W. Ward and Rose C. Ward, individually and as joint tenants,
