And the said Capt Pynchon, together wth Benjamin Coo- ley Robert Ashley Ensigne Cooper & Samuell Marshfeild were chosen for ye Select men for ye yeere ensueinge who have power to order the Prudentiall affaires of ye Town.


And Miles Morgan is chosen Constable to ye Towne for ye yeere ensueing & took his oath accordingly


And Elizur Holyoke is chosen Town Clarke or Recorder for ye yeere ensueinge.


Also Ensigne Cooper is chosen to be Clark of ye Writts who is to be prsented to ye next County Corte for yr appro- bation.


And Lawrence Blis & John Lamb were chosen Surveyors for ye high ways for ye yeere ensueinge

At a Town meeting it was by the In- habitants voted & concluded that whereas the Select men have formerly had power to make grannts of lands in the Plantation, Henceforward & till the Town shall otherwise Order it the lands of the Plantation shal be disposed of these Seven men hereafter mentioned vizt Capt Pynchon: Ens: Cooper: Benjamin Cooley: George Colton Rowland Thomas Miles Morgan & Elizur Holyoke & for ye prsent.


In reference to a form' Order concerning Inmates it was now further Ordered that if any person shall entertayn any Inmate or Inmates after they have been in the Town one month without consent of ye Select men they that soe enter- tayne them shall be liable to forfeit to ye Town 20s for ye first default & 20s p month for soe longe as they shall enter- tayne them: & besides if they shal neede releefe in the tyme of their abode in the Plantation then he or they that enter- tayne them shall be liable to be rated by the Select men for the releefe & mayntenance of such persons accordinge to ye judgmt & discretion of ye Select men.

Also there is granted to Samuell Bewell of Windsor thirty acres of land at Worronoco wch land is to ly next beyond Ens: Coopers land there: & is to extend from ye River South- ward to ye Brooke Northward: also theres grannted him ffoure or five acres of the wett meddow over that brook if it be there to be had:


The rest of the land yt lyes between Samuell Bewells 30 acres & the hill Westerly is grannted to Tho: Day: this peece of land also is to extend fro: ye River South'ly to ye Hill North'ly:


These grants of land at Worronoco are uppon Condition that the Granntees doe build & Settle themselves & their famlyes there wthin three yeere & continue uppon it foure yeere longer:

And whereas it is said that mur Whittinge layes claime to Some Lands at Worronoco, there is granted to ye said m' Whittinge ffty acres of land there on the South side of the River. This grannt is on Condition [1-237] that m' Whit- tinge doe quitt any further claime in any lands there about: alsoe yt he cleare ye Land by purchase of the Indians of the Indians right, & that he or his doe settle there in five yeere fro: this tyme:


Also there is grannted of the lands at Woronoco on ye South side of the River:


To John Holyoke 50 acres, to Deacon Chapin 30 acres.


To Thomas Stebbins 30 acres, to John Horton 30 acres. To John Bliss 30 acrs, to Samll Terry 30 acrs.


And to m'. Daniell Clarke of Windsor 40 acrs. This grant to in' Clarke is on condition that he come & settle there in his own pson wthin 3 yer from this tyme: & that he purchase his said portion of land of the Indians:


The rest of the grannts vizt to John Holyoke. Deacon Chapin Tho: Stebbin John Horton Samuell Terry & John Bliss are upon condition that they purchase ye land of the Indians wthin 3 yeare & that it be not intanglemts to m' Whit- ing or any others & that they goe thither to Inhabit & dwell on ye land for ye space of ffoure yeeres & if they or any of them shall dispose of their said parcell of land wthin the yeeres premised it shalbe to such as the Selectmen of Spring- feild shall approve off.

The Select men considering the great damage done to ye glas windowes of ye meeting house by childrenes playing about ye meeting house. They doe Order yt if any persons children or others Shalbe found playing at any sports about ye meeting whereby ye glass windowes yr of may be endamı- aged Such persons shalbe liable to a fine of 12d a peece for each tyme they shalbe found soe playing, wch fine is to be paid wthin 3 days after such default: & if the Governors of any youth yt Soe offend shall refuse to pay the said fyne such youths shalbe liable to be whipt by the Constable before 3 or more of ye Select men who shall determine ye number of stripes to be inflicted & if any other person Soe offending shall refuse to pay ye sayd fyne as aforesaid they shalbe lia- ble to ye like punishmet as aforesaid & all such fynes shall goe one halfe to ye Informrs & the other halfe to ye Select men for the use of ye Town in bearing publik charges.
