Compagnone two (2) years. The Members elected Giacchino T. Paganelli, 57 Mt. Pleasant St. Precinct 5-Anthony E. Allegrezza one (1) year. The Members elected John Moore, 81 Purchase St.
The Monitors reported 208 persons present. The Town Clerk read the warrant for the annual meeting and the officer's return thereon.

Mr. Adam F. Diorio read the following resolution ; RESOLUTIONS ON THE DEATH OF JOHN J. BEST
WHEREAS, the voters of the Town of Milford have learned with sorrow of the death of John J. Best, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Best, a citizen of Milford for many years, a member of this body and a Registrar of Voters of long standing, he exemplified the type of citizen who contributed much to the betterment of our community, and,
WHEREAS, his was a long and honorable service, per- formed efficiently and conscientiously for the benefit of all of our citizens, and particularly those of us who ap- peared before him in quest of the right to cast our first ballot in this great Democracy,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this meeting offer our sincere regrets and sympathy to his family, and that the business of this meeting be suspended while the members stand in silent tribute to his memory, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that his family be presented a copy of these resolutions and that a copy be inserted in the records of the next annual TOWN RE- PORT.

WHEREAS, the TOWN MEETING members have learned with regret and sorrow of the death of John N. Morcone, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Morcone through his attendance at these meetings and as a member of the MUNICIPAL ATHLETIC FIELD COMMITTEE, rendered a service to the TOWN in keeping with the principles of good citizen- ship, and

WHEREAS, in his passing the community has lost a devoted and sincere gentleman, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that as a symbol of our respect that the business of this meeting be suspended and that we stand in silent tribute to his memory, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of these resolutions be sent to his family and that these resolutions be published in the next annual TOWN REPORT.

Report of World War II Memorial Committee and Korean War Memorial Committee
These committees comprised of five town meetings each, appointed by Moderator John F. Curran, and repre- senting the five precincts, were established by the author- ity of the vote of the Town Meeting Members under Ar- ticle 73 of the Town Warrant at the annual Town Meeting held in March 1955.
These committees voted to combine and act as a joint committee at its first meeting held in 1955. The mission of these committees, under the article, was to investigate the possibility of erecting a monument or monuments to honor persons from Milford mustered into the Armed Forces during World War II and the Korean War.
The various members of the combined committees held several meetings and after study and consideration was given to the erection of a monument or monuments at the present time, all members present voted to recom- mend that these committees be continued to further in- vestigate the possibility of erecting a memorial or me- morials.

It was moved and seconded that the committee report be accepted and filed with the Town Clerk and the com- mittee be continued for another year.
Voted: That the reports of all Town Officers and committees of said town be accepted.
Under Article 2. Mr. John L. Manuel, Chairman of the Finance Committee presented the Moderator with a Finance Committee's Report.
It was Voted: That the Town vote to receive the report of the Finance Committee and that the Moderator inquire if any voter wishes to consider any item separately. Any voter who so wishes shall ask the Moderator to remove this item from the report and when this has been done, that the Town vote to raise and appropriate the amounts recommended by the Finance Committee. The meeting shall then consider the items to which objection has been made by taking up each nem individually.

A motion was made and seconded that the Town vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $6550.00. An amend- ment was offered to read that the amount be changed to $6950.00.
A Ballot vote was requested on the amendment by

Tellers appointed by the Moderator to assist the Mon- itors were : Prec. 1 - John T. O'Brien; Prec. 2 - John G. Gandolfi; Prec. 3 - James Donlon; Prec. 4 - William Dalton ; Prec. 5 - Arthur LeBlanc.
Counters appointed by the Moderator were: Donald F. Phillips, Rep. Nathan Rosenfeld, Leonardo Morcone and Joseph Testa.
Results of the ballot showed 96 persons voted in af- firmative and 111 persons voted in the negative. The amendment was lost.
A standing vote was taken on the motion that the bal- lot be taken by a standing vote. The Monitors reported 104 persons having voted in the negative and the motion carried.
Voted: To raise and appropriate the sum of $6550.00 for Town Treasurer - Salaries and Wages. Standing vote -178 persons voted in the affirmative.
Police Department-Salaries and Wages
A motion was made to raise and appropriate the sum of $84,546.67 for Police Department - Salaries and Wages.
A Ballot Vote was requested by John L. Manuel, Rico Ferrucci, Gerard F. Luby, Veta Anesta, Albert R. Luby, Roger LeTourneau and James Burke Cahill.
A motion was made that debate be stopped and the vote taken. A standing vote was taken and 207 persons voted in the affirmative and 1 person voted in the negative and the motion was carried.
Michael DeCesare from Precinct 1 was added to the list of Counters by Moderator Curran.
The result of the ballot vote did not tally so Moderator Curran called for a second ballot. Result of second ballot showed that 109 persons voted in the affirmative and 100 persons voted in the negative and it was Voted: That the

A motion was made that the method of voting be taken by a standing vote. 48 persons voted in the affirma- tive and 118 persons voted in the negative and the amend- ment was lost.

Voted: That the Town vote to authorize the Sewer Commissioners to appoint a member of the Sewer Commissioners to the position of part-time Super- intendent of Sewers and that the compensation of said appointee be Thirteen hundred twenty ($1,320.00) dollars, retroactive to January 1st 1957, in compliance with Chap- ter 41, Section 4A of the General Laws (Ter. Ed.).
Article 9. . Voted: That the Town vote to appropri- ate the Dog Tax of Seventeen hundred and twenty-seven dollars and fifty-one ($1727.51) cents to the Salaries and Wages Account of the Milford Town Library.
Article 10. Voted: That the Town vote to authorize the Highway Surveyor to sell any obsolete equipment presently under the control of the Highway Department.
Article 11. Voted: That the Town vote to appro- priate the sum of Twelve thousand six hundred ninety-four ($12,694.00) dollars for the purchase of a new truck and snow plow for the use of the Highway Department, and that to meet this appropriation the sum of Four thousand six hundred ninety-four ($4,694.00) dollars be raised in the 1957 Tax Levy and that the Treasurer with the ap- proval of the Selectmen be, and hereby is authorized to borrow the sum of Eight thousand ($8,000.00) dollars and

to issue bonds and notices of the Town therefor, payable in accordance with the provisions of the General Laws so that the whole loan shall be paid in not more than five (5) years from the date of issue of the first bond or note, or at such earlier time as the Treasurer and Selectmen may determine. Said money to be expended under the super- vision of the Highway Surveyor.

Voted : That the Town vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Five thousand five hundred ($5,500.00) dollars for the construction of Dilla Street, said money to be used with money allotted by the State and County for said purpose, the same to be expended un- der the supervision of the Board of Selectmen.

Voted: That the Town vote to raise and appropriate the sum of Three thousand ($3,000.00) dollars for the construction of Freedom Street, said money to be used with money allotted by the State and County for said purpose, the same to be expended under the supervision of the Board of Selectmen.
Article 15. Voted: That the Town vote to raise and appropriate the sum of One thousand five hundred ($1,500.00) dollars for Chapter 90 Maintenance, said money to be used with money allotted by the State and County for said purpose, the same to be expended under the sup- ervision of the Board of Selectmen.

Article 19. Voted: To pass over the article.
Article 20. Voted: That the Town vote to raise and appropriate the sum of One thousand ($1,000.00) dol- lars for electrically lighting certain main streets during the Christmas Holiday, to be expended under the super- vision of a committee consisting of three (3) to be ap- pointed by the Moderator.
Article 21. Voted: That the Town authorize the Board of Sewer Commissioners and the Board of Select- men to file an application for Federal Grant for Sewage Treatment Works under the Federal Water Pollution Con- trol Act (33 U. S. C. 466 et seq.).
Article 22. Voted: That the Town appropriate the sum of $13,000.00 (Thirteen Thousand) dollars for the pur- pose of purchasing a New Brush Fire Truck for the use of the Fire Department, and to meet the said appropria- tion, that the amount of Four thousand five hundred dol- lars ($4,500.00) to be raised in the Tax Levy of the current year, and that the Treasurer be authorized to borrow a sum not to exceed Eight thousand five hundred dollars ($8,500.00) and to issue bonds or notes of the Town there- fore, said bonds or notes to be payable in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 44, of the General Laws. The whole loan shall be paid in not more than five (5) years, or at such period as may be determined by the Town Trea- surer with the approval of the Selectmen.
